Info Found: “By virtue of the fact that you are a student at school, there is no privacy.” Pascual Gonzalez. There is no doubt that that schools will follow this line when it comes to them adopting RFID or similar objects in the future. The school has been cyber attacked by Anonymous hackers because they are using a system that can very well be hacked into. They have decided to drop chips because of safety concerns and denial-of-service attacks.
Info Found: These IDs are on lanyards, which could become dangerous. "In September, a $15-million lawsuit was filed in Canada after an 8-year-old boy in Calgary was choked when his lanyard got hung up on a bathroom stall. The child suffered severe brain injuries." J. Cavanaugh Simpson
Info Found: These chips will host hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars with 3 schools and 6290 students. "The ACLU, though, has previously voiced strong objections to chipping students, pointing out that these "insecure" card readers have been copied "with a handheld device the size of a standard cell phone that was built using spare parts costing $20." Equipped with one, they argue, it would be simple for someone to track a student. The group says an even larger concern is that chips could also be copied, allowing would-be kidnappers to take a child off campus while the duplicate chip continues to tell RFID readers that the child is safely at school."
Info Found: "In Texas, school finance is a numbers game: schools receive money based on the number of students counted in their homeroom classes each morning. At Anson Jones, as at other schools, many students were in school but not in homeroom, so they were not counted and the district lost money", said Pascual Gonzalez, a spokesman for the district. Some critics have privacy issues. These chipped IDs will also cost the state more money
Info Found: Schools in Texas get funded by the amount of kids that show up to their homeroom in the morning. Not all kids show up, so the schools don't get funded for every single student. The chipped cards are used in hopes to track students. They are hoping it bumps the attendance rate and increases the funding.
