Sherlock Holmes was known all thoroughout England for his great detective work. Like most detectives they would just look for clues and think or guess where the criminal was. In South Africa races were separated and divided. Different races weren't even allowed to go through the same door. Mandela saw this as a problem and thought it should be changed. He would hold rallies and lead marches to show the country his anger for the separation. He then would talk to both sides he would talk with the African National Congress and F.W. de Klerk, the president at the time. He felt for both sides and understood from where they were coming from. He used his excellent diplomacy skills and help bring an end to the separation in South Africa.
After WWII England were letting their colonies go and allowing them to be independent, but not India. Gandhi, an Indian citizen, saw why they did this, it was because India manufactured salt and textiles. He knew if he struck at the factories and boycotted the industries that England would have to let India go. That's exactly what he did he boycotted the indutries, he lead marches, and also lead civil disobidience rallies against England. All of his actions with help from others lead to India's freedom. Gandhi knew the problem and understood what England wanted from India and used that to gain freedom for his homeland.
Nearing the end of the Cold War Russia was almost in ruins. They had spent too much money competing against the U.S. It wasn't the fact that they weren't using it right but the fact that they were communist. In a capitalist system money you spend eventually comes back, but that wasn't how communism worked, money would just be gone. Mikhail Gorbachev saw this, he saw that competing with the U.S. wasn't getting Russia anywhere and he knew it was because of communism. So he changed, he opened the economy and loosened some of the restricitions that were put in place because of communism. He understand the problem his country was facing that no one else saw. He took action and changed Russia for the better.

Batman lives in a city of crime. When he was younger he never knew that he never saw what was really happening. It took the death of his parents for him to understand this city was in trouble. He also saw no one was doing anything to stop the crime. In response he took action, and became the Batman. He helped his city and teamed up with the police to stop crime. The citizens could sleep in peace once again because of Batman. I make this point to help show people that it isn't just going to school and reading that can give you knowledge, but also looking around yourself and understanding how things work that you can also make a difference.
In the book the Circle there is a clear example that knowledge is power. With the invention of the SeeChange cameras the Circle had full knowledge of where everyone was. Thieves, murderers, and predators couldn't commit their crimes with the cameras anymore. People had to change how they acted because of these cameras. It can be said the Circle had full power over everyone's movements and emotions. People changed in how the Circle wanted them to. They knew putting cameras in fron of everyone would change how they would act.
I love books. Books teach me so much about life, history, and ways to solve problems. They give people perspectives on issues that can be applied to the real world. Books enlighten people with new ways to go about understanding the world.
Some problems can be hard and very fragile. The smallest microagression could bring people to war. Some you must have the knowledge and understanding of both sides to strenghten the relation between the people. Diplomacy is defined in the dictionary as, the skill in handling affairs without arousing hostility. Problems between nations are very common in this world. To solve these problems nations go to war, but before that they usually talk. In this period you have to have the knowledge of the other side and come to a compromise between each other because any word could lead to war. That's why you should choose your words carefully and have a big vocabulary to express yourself and to really project your vision. To better represent diplomacy I thought of Henry Kissinger, who is known for working tirelessly to build strong relationships between nations for the U.S.
