Louis Jordan was rocked by a sudden storm that capsized his 35-foot sailboat and he was lost at sea for 66 days. His boat turned around and he said he was thrown into the air when the ship turned over. His ship then turned back over but mast was broken. His ship after that capsized two more times after the ordeal. The ship could not travel due to the mast being broken. He survived by collecting seaweed and small little animals. He almost ran out of water but then started praying to god for water. Rain is a crucial item needed if you are stranded at sea. It is not safe to drink the salt water due to it making you more dehydrated then you should be. As Louis was running out of water he prayed to god for it to rain. Religion has a large aspect when you are stranded at sea. Louis prayed to god he would be safe and that he would make it out alive. He prayed for water and to be found. After 66 days of being stranded a ship passed by seeing Louis and rescued him. The ocean is a hard place to survive and even if you are not very knowledgeable about the sea it is important to know a few things. Luckily for Louis he was not stranded at sea as long as Pi was but he survived just like Pi did. Louis was lucky enough for his boat to turn back over so he could have something to float on. Religion has become a large aspect linked to the ocean and being stranded on the ocean due to praying to god to survive through being lost. Both Pi and Louis prayed to god to survive.
VIEW MOREIn the video it explains about all about the oceans. 70% of the earth is covered by water. Every country has territory of 12 miles before it reaches their land. You are allowed to pass through the territorial waters which have laws and are enforced. Each ship must be registered to a country. When you are in the water of another country the laws of your land do not apply to you the laws of the new country apply to you. When coming from different countries you need a passport and can only enter when you have one. The laws for maritime are very convoluted and very confusing. The topic I picked for my project was ocean laws and how they apply to anyone in the ocean. This video explains all the laws and how they apply to everyone in the ocean. Maritime laws apply to everyone and each country has their own laws that apply to anyone that comes to their land or 12 miles in radius. The lens I picked for my project was religion. Religion is a large part with ocean laws due to if you are on the ocean. While traveling along the ocean different laws apply to you and some may be things your religion doesn't agree with. While traveling if you come 12 miles in radius of any country those laws apply to you and you must follow them. Religion was a large part with Pi and it pushed him through the trip the whole time. When beginning the trip Pi did not eat meat but over time had to start eating meat to survive.
VIEW MOREThe video explains everything you need to know and do to survive a shipwreck. It shoes the do's and don'ts of the ocean. In the video they explain the emergency procedures you must take if you are ever stuck at sea. While listening he explains every safety procedure you must take. When the ship starts going down finding the life boat on the boat is the first thing you must try to do, if not find anything that floats. You are at high risk of dehydration, hypothermia, and getting a sun burn while floating along the sea. While you are on the lifeboat it is very important you are somewhere you can be seen by passing planes or other boats so they can help you. It is very important to find clean water (NOT SALT WATER) and food to survive. It is important to not use up all your energy while on the boat so do not go swimming in the ocean. The will to survive is 90% mental you need to want it more than anything. You need to keep fighting and pushing through to be found. Try staying near your boat that went down but if you can not do that use the oceans currents. Look for any type of land and look for birds. It also gives examples of how to get the food and the ways to do it. The topic I decided to choose was ocean and the oceans laws. Through this topic Pi had to learn how to survive with the tiger. He did not have much knowledge on how to surviving which is why it was very hard for him. Pi was a fighter and pushed through to survive. The lens I decided to choose was Religion. I picked this due to Pi always referring back to his religion and never stopping while being stranded at sea. “These people fail to realize that it is on the inside that God must be defended, not on the outside. They should direct their anger at themselves. For evil in the open is but evil from within that has been let out. The main battlefield for good is not the open ground of the public arena but the small clearing of each heart.” This quote said by Pi refers to always referring to god while at sea. His religion helps him survive due to his faith in god.
