People use religion as a reason to hate gays, but parents teach their children religion. Parents teach their children that gays are wrong simply because it is their opinion. Parents influence their children by forcing their opinions upon their kids.*** “Hating Gays.” Edited by PBS, PBS, Public Broadcasting Service, www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/assault/roots/overview.html.
Our brains comprehend thoughts every second of everyday. There are so many ideas and opinions in our minds, that thy often contradict themselves. As we age, old thoughts fade and new ones form. I believe that this is why we are able to have differing opinions from our parents. For example, a boy living in a conservative family could be taught from a young age that homosexuals are sinning, but as he grows up he could start to understand that homosexuals are normal people doing nothing wrong. This is because his old thoughts fade and his new thoughts form based off of the information around him.*** “How Are We Able to Control Our Brains, When Our Brains Control Us?” Quora, 2 July 2016, www.quora.com/How-are-we-able-to-command-our-brain-while-it-is-the-main-organ-that-controls-us-Isnt-this-paradoxical+.
Prejudice is a word used to describe a negative feeling made about someone or something. Prejudices are caused by negative feelings associated with whatever topic is at hand. Prejudices can also be caused by the information known about the topic by the viewer. Parents provide the majority of the information that children know. They mediate the knowledge their children have and conform them to their views. Parents control their children, to make it simple.*** Prejudice.", "Causes of. “Causes of Prejudice.” Gale Library of Daily Life: Slavery in America, Encyclopedia.com, 2018, www.encyclopedia.com/social-sciences/news-wires-white-papers-and-books/causes-prejudice.
Parents are single handedly the most important figure in any person's life. They create the foundation of their child's life just by being present in their lives. a recent study shows that how emotionally invested the parents are in the child's life directly impacts their child's future mental state. If a parent is emotionally absent in a child's life it could cause mental illness and reckless behavior. Parents have so much control over their child's life whether they know it or not. *** Murphy, Alexandra. “Parental Influence on the Emotional Development of Children.” Feminism and Film, Vanderbilt, 7 May 2014, my.vanderbilt.edu/developmentalpsychologyblog/2014/05/parental-influence-on-the-emotional-development-of-children/.
Religion is a form of opinion because it is never right or wrong and everyone feels differently about it. Parents have the largest influence on their children's faith or religious opinion. T.F. Martin says that there is "a significant direct relationship between parental, congregational, and peer influences". Parents teach their children their views on religion and the children agree with them because parents are the All Mighty in their lives.*** Headley, Sue. People form opinions based off of their environment. In most cases, children form the opinions that their parents agree with because their parents are a part of a person's most common environment, their home. People all of have very differing opinions when it comes to social issues such as gender roles. Some people believe that woman can't be anything else than a housewife while others believe that women can do whatever they please because women are equal. I believe that people have such different opinions because "the strongest influence on gender role development seems to occur within the family setting" (Parental influence on children's socialization to gender roles, Susan D. Witt). People obtain the same opinions as their parents because their parents are who they are around the most.***
