This article provided me with the terms that I needed to talk about collages. For example, I will be mixing high and low or traditional and commercialism. I will be using both memes (low art) and painting (high art). Dadaism was one of the first movements to incorporate collage and use commercialism as a art form. This trend continues today into memes which often features ads and other popular forms of media.
This is just one collage artist that I found and really liked. He was from the time of Dadaism. I think that I could work and incorporate his compositions. While, I don't necessarily appreciate his color schemes or drab tone, I do really like his perspective and manipulation of the subject matter. If I added paint or some modern memes, I really think this could work for my project.
I'm not exactly sure how this can help me but I thought it was very interesting. The fact that overexposure of any content can be toxic. Memes build on each other. Some memes can take extensive knowledge of previous memes to understand. What makes memes so interesting to me is that they are very creative. This is just like art in real life that builds on concepts and movements before it. Dadaism never died it just transform into surrealism which laid the framework for modern art and eventually memes.
Again this is not very informational but I have almost all of the information that I need. I focused more on finding sources that can help me with the physical aspect. I think that once I finalize the captions, the physical project will be the hardest part. I am thinking about pasting memes printed out and using paint to decorate. The medium will be easier to control than on a computer. I might use stickers or newspaper clippings for the Dadaism aspects.
The main form of dadaism is collage because it uses elements of real life and pastes it together creatively. It uses the media to further their agenda. The art of not creating, that collages aren't meant to look aesthetically pleasing. Similar to internet memes which are made to look or sound ugly on purpose. I will take the entire concept of pasting different concepts from modern day life and traditions and make something beautiful.
This references the history of collage which was extremely important to Dadaism. The art form perfectly encapsulates what Dadaism represents and what it is trying to express. That is why I want collage to be the form for my essay. It allows me to blend modern day memes and art strips seamlessly.
This is kind of unrelated but I thought it could be helpful for my project. I am seriously considering doing a physical piece because I think that it would be easier to express my idea. I think that physical pieces will be way more powerful and emotional, blending the gap between mediums. It will be very time consuming so I figured that time-saving tips will help. Also the last tip mentions mixed media which will be very beneficial.
This article will help me set the perimeters for what a meme is exactly. This will help me establish what I will consider memes for the purpose of this essay. While memes can apply to more than internet, I will only use viral internet memes for the purpose of simplicity. Also the internet is the fastest form of communication, therefore making it the most prevalent. That idea is crucial to my argument that memes are fast spreading forms of expression.
This article critiques the art world for its pertinaciousness. It ignores memes as a primary source of art and basic expression. The article also makes a point about how nice it would be to see memes in museums. I am efficiently doing the same thing with my collage. I will be mixing mediums of art and memes together as a message to the art community.
This is very impressive. This is how I want my essay to convey its message. The stylistic choose was entertaining yet meaningful. The illustrations added the the engagement of the reader, not distracted. I would like this set-up as my essay because it is way more efficient than some other comics I have seen,
