Misconceptions about Muslims

Media has played a big part in our lives and has shaped many Americans into believing that all Muslims are dangerous.

The truth about Muslims in America

The truth about Muslims in America

Contrary to what some Americans think there are actually many reasons why Muslims are good people. First of all, they are a very well educated group of people and just so happen to be the second-highest level of education among major religious groups in the country. Not only that, but just like some Christians they are very religious and deserve the same respect just like Christians. Also, they have a right to be here in the United States just like everyone else because about a fourth or third of the Africans brought here were Muslims. Even so, Muslims are also fighting terrorism around the world and have to suffer even more with terrorism compared to America. There really is no reason to fear Muslims because terrorism is based off of the individual and cannot be defined by a religion.

10 Reasons You Should Not Fear Muslims

10 Reasons You Should Not Fear Muslims

After 9/11 occurred Muslims have been thought of as these terrible people who believe in violence. This is completely not true, Islam is a religion of peace, and to categorize them as a terrorist is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I bet you didn't know that the number one cause of death in America is heart disease. Everyday someone commits suicide. Everyday someone dies because of drunk driving. But that doesn't matter because Muslims are our biggest problem because people who just so happen to be Muslims did 9/11, even though since then less than 0.0002% of Americans were actually killed by people since then. No that is completely wrong, just by looking at the facts one can realize that there's no reason to fear Muslims at all, it's just social media that chooses to put a negative light on Muslims.

Muslims Are Not Terrorists: A Factual Look at Terrorism and Islam

One of the big misconceptions about Muslims is that they're all terrorists. Yes, they're actually people who are ignorant enough to believe that all 1 billion Muslims are terrorists. In all honesty, if people want to be scared of Muslims, then they should be even more terrified of toddlers. Oh now they are the real danger in society since more Americans were killed by toddlers for the past several years! Better yet we should start fearing inanimate objects, you never know when you're going to be crushed to death by your ceiling fan. I bet you didn't know that right? Even so, from 1980-2005 94% of terrorists were... non-Muslims! Now let's go across the country towards Europe, 98% of terrorists were not Muslims! Shocking, right? Actually it's not as shocking as you may think. There's not a lot of things that Social Media tells you, they only show what they think will interests their viewers even if that means not showing the truth. Social media plays a huge role in our society and the media takes advantage of that by not giving us the full truth.

As I've previously said social media can shape the way we think but believe it or not people of a higher status can also shape the way we think. An example of those kind of people include presidents, and the United State's president is Donald Trump. Based off of Donald Trump's actions of how tries to control terrorism, there is no doubt that he believes Muslims are somehow connected to terrorism. His actions are basically implying that Muslims are a big problem. But even David Schanzer, director of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security had said that “It is flatly untrue that America is deeply threatened by violent extremism by Muslim-Americans,” Also sociologist, Charles Kurzman has a new study that recorded the number of terrorist attacks by American Muslims. According to that, it is a very small number. He also did another study if Muslims from the countries that were involved in Trump's travel ban posed as a terrorist threat and it turned out they didn't. I think people, even the ones who are held to a higher standard need to educate themselves in order for us to actually unit and fight terrorism.

Anti-Muslim hate crimes: Ignorance in action?

Anti-Muslim hate crimes: Ignorance in action?

How can Americans make assumptions about Muslims, when most likely never had been directly affected by them. According to a study by the Public Religion Research Institute more than 6 out of 10 Americans have never actually talked to a Muslim. And yet Americans ignorance motivates them to hate all Muslims because of 9/11. After 9/11 anti-Muslim hate crimes have increased a lot. Innocent Muslims have been punished in numerous ways. From being shot at, to being beaten, stabbed, or even as far as being set on fire. And this isn't just in a private space, Muslims have been harassed in front of schools, on the streets, even in front of their own children, all because of their religion. Some anti-Muslims will even throw bricks and stones at the windows of Mosque's or go as far as putting a pig's head in front of a Mosque. But have you heard of Muslims vandalizing churches? Oh, that's right, because that never happened! But that doesn't matter because all Muslims are terrorists. Wrong, if people actually listened to the facts and not everything that social media puts out there, they would finally stop trying to link Muslims to terrorism.
