Alton Sterling Shooting

We chose Alton sterling because just like others his death was recorded but he was not indicted. He was held down and shot to death by white police officers. This could've been one of our loved ones. We chose him because seeing his children on the news crying is heartbreaking. No one should ever have to lose their parent to police brutality . It is unfair and the police officers need to be convicted

Michael Brown's Death

Michael Brown was a teenage African American who was killed by an officer in St.Louis. I chose Michael Brown's death because not only is he a teenager like myself, but I also live in St.Louis. This stood out to me because people I knew were related to him and I was able to learn more about him. It was a time I was able to witness and participate in my first big protest and witness others riot in my own hometown. Many businesses and schools were shut down for days and weeks due to the riots and protesting. Michael's death left a big impact on many of my friends and family because he lived not far from us. This could have easily been us or one of our relatives. Michael's reasoning for his murder was unclear until years later like the usual. Michael Brown was an unarmed man who was killed with no justice because of "stealing"

The Death of Sandra Bland

Sandra Bland's death was chosen because her death was nationally known and very mysterious. She was killed in a jail due to a traffic violation in 2015. Sandra's death stands out because she is an African American female just like myself. Also, many of my friends and I drive and if we get pulled over something like this could happen to one of us. Many of my family members reside in Texas and this could have easily been one of them. Sandra was a mother and now her children has to grow up without her. This connects to myself and others because what if this was one of our mothers? Sandra was an innocent unarmed victim that murder was unjustified and unfair.

The Unnecessary Death of Eric Garner

We chose Eric Garner’s story because he death was filmed yet no policeman was indicted. The police officer used an illegal chokehold on garner. On top of that they arrested the person who filmed his death. This story was chosen because young black men are targeted in America. Although, we have footage the system still fails us. The system is nkt built for African Americans. It is a shame that this is still happening in this day and age. The story is touching and could happen to any of the men in our families. We chose the story because “we can't breathe” Eric garner deserves justice.

The Death of Tamir Rice

Tamir Rice's case really hit home with me because he was a young unarmed child. Who was seen to be an armed black man sitting on a swing. He is the sweetest looking little boy how can he even be mistaken for a man? He was racially profiled and that's what hurts the most. Even though we don't know him that could happen to any of our young generations. We chose his story because it is crazy how our younger generations are targeted as well. Tamir’s face is nowhere near threatening! If toy guns are so “threatening” then why are they sold in stores? We chose Tamir’s story because it shows how black men are targeted no matter the race
