Last year, I had my 14th birthday. For my birthday, I went to Benihana with my neighbors. We do this for everyone's birthday in our families, and it’s a lot of fun. This year, I ordered the hibachi shrimp and fried rice. After, we went to my neighbor’s house and had cake. We got cookie cake because that is my favorite kind. I got some presents from my neighbors as well, and I also got presents from my friends a few days later. I had a couple of my friends come over, and we had a fun time playing basketball and baseball at the park. The present I got was money in order for me to buy a Ps3, but I ended up not doing it. I can’t wait for my birthday, and it is in 3 months. I am so excited to see my family again and go to benihana, too.
This past year’s Christmas was a lot of fun. It was the first year where I was taller than my family in the Christmas picture. We got to go to our neighbor’s grandparents house. There, we got to open presents, and eat dinner there. I had a great time, and we got to eat Chinese food. In the morning, I woke up late, and we ate eggs, bacon, and pancakes. I got a Ps4, and I was really happy. I plugged it in right away, and played it until lunch. I don’t fully remember what we did for lunch, but it probably wasn’t that important. The Christmas before, we went to Georgia to our cousin’s house, but we couldn’t this year. Anyways, I was really happy to spend my Christmas with my neighbors this time, and I can’t wait to do it next year.
This school year I got to be apart of my first Battle of the Classes at Herricks High School. Not only that, but it was also my sister’s last Battle. I got to participate in one event, the beach ball volleyball. We played the sophomores at first, and we lost. This was mainly a game meant for the tallest kids, but a lot of shorter people played instead. Not only that, but the freshman class is on average less developed and shorter than everyone else, so this was an event we were most likely going to get last place in. Either way i had a good time. The rest of Battle I got to watch my friends compete against the rest of my school and teaching staff. Our hallway was terrible, but it didn’t matter, because we knew that we wouldn’t win. After Battle, I hung out with my friends to celebrate our 4th place. It was overall a great experience, and I can’t wait for the next three years.
My first season of school volleyball was very fun. It all started out in late summer where we got to try out. I was nervous at first, but I ended up making the team along with a bunch of my other friends. I don’t think that we won the first game, but I ended up having fun. Later on in the season,. I was gifted the starting position, and even played libero for a bit. Libero is a defensive minded position, and you sub in whenever you can to play the back row or serve for other players. It was a lot of fun, but I think that other players are going to play that position and I will stay as an outside hitter., Maybe when i get taller, i will be able to play middle, or even front outside. I made a lot of friends in the year above me, and I got closer with other students I usually didn’t talk to. Our season didn’t end well, and we didn’t finish with a winning record, but maybe we will this year. I hope to become a captain, or a leader of the team to help the other players that will be coming up from the middle school. Next season will be a lot of fun, because the year after I will be in Varsity.
Every summer, my neighbors and my family go to Fire Island for a week. It has become a tradition, and we’ve been doing it for a while. We started out in a small house which only had a few bedrooms. Ryan and I ended up sleeping on a blowup mattress in the living room, and Luke was only 2. The next year, we rented a house that was pretty nice, and it finally had over 2 bedrooms. Ryan and I slept in a bunk bed that was next to Jeff and Luke’s bedroom. We stayed there for only 2 years. The fourth year, we rented a house that was much bigger. We had a bed for everyone to stay in, and we had a nice kitchen and living room. My favorite things that we do in Fire Island is fishing, going to the beach, and playing cards. We sometimes go fishing at the dock, and it's really fun, but we usually don’t catch any fish. We go to the beach everyday we can, and we end up going in the park and relaxing. We also ride our scooters there and back. The last thing is playing cards. The games that we play are exploding kittens, and Euchre. Last year, we tried many new restaurants, and it was a lot better than the years before. I can’t wait to go back for our sixth year and see my neighbors and the house again.
Every Sunday at 9 pm, My mom and I rush to the living room T.V to turn on AMC, and watch The Walking Dead. I first got into The Walking Dead when my mom was watching the first episode on Netflix a few years ago. I decided to join her, and I instantly got hooked. I loved the plot, the characters, and the suspense after every episode. The reason why this specific date is listed as one of the most important dates of the year is because this was the mid season premiere of season 7. The show recently left us on a big cliff hanger, and everyone was excited to watch the second part of the season after a 4 month break in between halves. We were left hanging with a mysterious person watching a character by the name of Gabriel through binoculars in the woods. The last thing that we saw was their boots lurk out of the darkness, and head towards Alexandria. Another reason why this date made my top 7 of the year is because a lot of my friends also watch the show, and we always talk about each episode the day after in school. If something happens in the show, we’ll share our thoughts, or even call each other in between commercial breaks. Still, it won’t be awhile until the season 8 premiere arrives ( mid October), but my friends, family, and I will be talking about it until then!
It has become sort of a tradition to go to a Mets game every year around my birthday. So on September 19th, my mom and I drove on a Monday night to Citi field to watch the New York Mets play the Atlanta Braves in the first game of a three game series. Sadly, it didn’t go as planned. Syndergaard ended up having his worst start of his career, and the Mets ended up losing the game 7-3. Though it wasn’t what I was hoping, I got to see James Loney go 3-4 with an RBI, and watch T.J Rivera hit a two-run home run to give us a little hope in the 3rd inning. I also got to spend the late afternoon with my mom, so that counts as a win for me. The reason why this date made my top 7 of the school year is because I am a huge Met fan, and any time that I have a chance to see them live is amazin’ (no pun intended). It’s not every day that you get to sit up close, and watch MLB all stars that are making millions of dollars per year. Syndergaard is also one of my favorite players, and it was still crazy to see him in person, even though he had a bad game. I am planning to go to a Met game next week, and I hope that there is a better outcome than last game.
