Colin Kaepernick was the starting quarterback for the Francisco 49ers. In August of 2016 he knelt during the National Anthem because he was protesting against police brutality towards colored people. Kaepernick said to the press "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." Steve Wyche said the 49rs will let Keapernick express his thoughts, and it's his choice to stand or sit during the National ANthem.
Players are not against Americans they are just protesting against police brutality of colored people. Colin Kaepernick started the protest in August 2016. At first everyone was confused but then he told the press why he knelt during the Anthem. Some say it's disrespectful to the country and to the people who died for this country. But the players say they are not against Americans they are just trying to make a peaceful statement. SB Nation NFL says that they are not trying to disrespect the flag, military, or country they are just making a point."
Bruce Maxwell is the rookie catcher for the Oakland A's. He was the first MLB player to take a knee during the national anthem. Maxwell said "anyone who wants to support Trump of something like this is disgusting. It went from just a racial issue to now him demeaning a man's inequality. It was a very hard decision and if a player would have told me not to do it i Probably wouldn't have." Martin Gallegos said "it had to be one of the hardest decisions Maxwell had to make. Maxwell even talked with the coaches and manager before he did it."
In London 27 players from the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens took a knee during the National Anthem. A quote from Shahid Khan the coach of the Jaguars “Our team and the National Football League reflects our nation, with diversity coming in many forms—race, faith, our views, and our goals,” During the national anthem the majority on their knees were blacks. But Khan interlocked arms standing with two of his players who are black. Doreen St. Félix is the author of this article and she says that ifyou kneel then your not just against him your against the people of this country.
Trump is against the protest during the National Anthem. He thinks anyone who kneels during the National Anthem should get suspended for a game. Hillary Clinton didn't find the protests disrespectful but Trump replied " she thinks this but that is also why she didn't win the election." Chris Chavez said "Trump was criticizing the NFL players for kneeling and saying that they need to get suspended."
Donald Trump is saying how disrespectful it is to kneel during the Nation Anthem. Trump is influencing people from against the players kneeling to agreeing with them. But some democrats have joined Trump and agree with him. People are usually with Trump are no longer agreeing with him and the people who were against him are with him because of the protest. John Sides said "it is easily predictable for presidents to take sides and polarize public opinion."
