In Nazi Germany, what made it possible for ordinary citizens to murder millions of innocent children, women, and men? Many people thought they were making their country better and were helping the world. They were also taught it was okay to do this, and thought they wouldn't be killed either.
Many propaganda posters were very deceiving to the public. They made it look like the Jews were the creators of all hate, fear, madness, and everything bad in the world. They also referred to many other groups, like the gay community. These posters turned many people against the groups the Nazis were trying to show inferior. This led them to link up with Hitler and the Nazis. These posters rallied up the public and they took action to "Make Germany Great Again!" (Yes, I used part of a Donald Trump quote because #WhyNotIGuess (It also has to deal with something some what recent)) Anyway, aside from that, propaganda helped make it possible for ordinary citizens to murder millions of innocent citizens in Nazi Germany.
Why did hundreds of thousands of ordinary people turn on their neighbours to take part in the Holocaust? Well, we don't really know the answer to that question. There are many, many answers but some of them don't make sense and some contradict others. An example of one of these answers is that people were just taking orders, according to the website I have linked up with. This website also states that people could have opted out if they wanted to. Another example that the sites said what that some of the people were just plain killers. They murdered these Jewish and other families just for the fun of it. Now, I do believe some people just joined in so they could murder hundreds of people without getting in trouble, but I don't know how I feel about people just saying they were taking orders. If you want, you can go and read the site I have linked because they go into a lot more detail, unlike my summary, and find out what you think and or believe afterwards.
Was Hitler and the Nazis doing good in their eyes? What did they think they were doing? These are all question many people ask themselves when they learn about the holocaust. I believe the Nazis and Hitler were doing good in their eyes, and much of the world saw this differently differently. Now, I’m not saying I’m pro-Hitler or pro-Nazi, but I do believe that the Nazis and Hitler thought they were doing good. They thought they were making Germany a better place for their people to live, well most of their people. By believing they were making a good difference in Germany, they murdered millions to keep this "good" difference going for as long as they could. Today, many leaders think they are doing this by taking action to help with many problems. Take Donald Trump for example, he thinks he is doing good by deporting “illegals’’ because they are taking American jobs, American money, and other valuable American resources, which leaves citizens of the United States with little left for them. There are also other countless examples where leaders think they are doing good, while many other people see it differently. Take the time to read the article I have included, and you can choose how you feel.
The picture book and allegory, Terrible Things, by Eve Bunting is a great example of how Nazi Germany got away with murdering millions of people. In the book, the white rabbits and the other creatures looked away when the “Terrible Things” came along and took away others with different characteristics. This is exactly how many germans and other people acted. They thought they would be okay because they weren’t gay, a Jew, a criminal, etc. Then, the Nazis came for them and they pleaded for help, but there was no one left to help. After a while though, people caught on and took action to stop it.
