During my Freshmen year of high school I learned and discovered many new hobbies because of the multitude of after school activities at Herricks high school. One thing that I learned and love to do is Chinese yo-yo. I started Chinese yo-yo about when school started and i went every week on Thursday to practice, we soon during the lunar festival had a performance that i decided to join last minute because i didn't know there was volunteer hours. Many months go by after the festival and my Chinese class has a trip to Massapequa high school and me and my two friends went up and did Chinese yo-yo. As the months went by i sharpened my yo-yo skills and it is something i love to do during my free time.
I hate English, I hate the language, the crazy grammar, the way words are pronounced, everything.*Hated. I actually look forward to this class because it's so chill and the teacher is so nice. No I'm no the teachers pet, i'm load and annoying and call her over to show her my crazy snapping thing but I really enjoy English now. In my past only had one English teacher that I enjoyed, and that was in 6th grade, but I haven't had one before that or in middle school. Some of many things that I enjoy in Mrs. Dainoffs period 6 class is that we got to choose our seats, I enjoy this because, if I choose someone who is smart then it would be a lot more easier when I don't know a word or don't understand a certain phrase. Also, I really enjoyed reading Romeo and Juliet and I really don't know why but whats certain is that if I was in another class I would've used spark notes for every single page because that books word choice is something i'm not familiar with. The final thing that makes me happy is that she gives us pre-set up notes and in general notes because it really helps with understanding a certain text. I actually do hope that I have Mrs. Dainoff next year because i'm scared to face a non fun teacher.
Yeah sure I did art in middle school and elementary, but nothing really compares to studio art in high school. This year i took studio art as an elective and I wasn't expecting that much, just the regular, draw this or draw whatever you want but I quickly found out that my teacher Mrs.Zebrowski taught us different mediums to draw in, but we could for the most part choose anything to draw. At first I thought that the class was boring but because she was very chill we could talk while drawing or painting as long as we finished the project on time. Some of the projects were very annoying to me but because i chose something that i liked i enjoyed the class. Through all the projects and all the drawings I made I started enjoying drawing more and it really changed the way I view art. Now at the end of the year we have to have our "art final" and it's basically drawing anything you want but it has to relate to you, and I haven't thought of anything yet but it makes me try to imagine more. I'm truly glad that I took studio art and I really want to take photography but I already chose computer science and I am regretting it.
What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is basically sticking needles inside your skin to relax a muscle or what i'm doing, for allergies. Now sticking needles inside your skin doesn't exactly sound fun but its actually quite relaxing and almost no pain is felt during the time the acupuncturist puts the needles in and when they take it out. I personally never wanted acupuncture done to me but I can gladly say it helped me with my allergies have gone better tenfold than what allergy medicine does for me. Luckily my mother is an acupuncturist so I don't have to pay for a session and I don't have to go out to get acupuncture done to me, and if you have a very skilled acupuncturist like my mom there is almost no pain. Many people ask how many times they have to do it, and honestly it is based on the person, for me my allergies had been severe for many years and my mother did it for me only 4 or 5 times and I don't sneeze as much or have a stuffy nose as much. I also had acupuncture in my calf one time because it was hurting after track and let me tell you, I didn't know when she put the needle in because it doesn't hurt at all on the leg. I wish I hadn't been so afraid of needles for such a long time because I feel that acupuncture really did help with stress and allergies.
Having a twin is not at all a new experience for me, I've been doing it since I was born, but the new experiences that come along with being a twin change. Many people have always asked me if I like being a twin or how is it being a twin but its just like having a sibling. During my freshmen year of high school, my brother and I have found our strong specialty, my twin is the more academically successful one while I am more creative, hes more authoritative while I am more laid back, and although our personalities are different our mom has had us wear the same thing for basically all of our lives, until this year. It might not seem that exiting but for us that meant that we didn't have to wear what seemed uncomfortable to us. In addition, on the day our mom decided it was time to stop wearing the same clothes all of the people we knew at school noticed right away. Speaking of people in our school, Timothy, being the person he is, made many friends during band class, and when i'm walking through the hall random people say hi to me and I never respond, making it seem that Timothy is not a nice guy when in reality I don't even know them. At least one thing still hasn't changed, our Chinese teacher doesn't know the difference between us!
As a Freshman of high school I decided to do something i have never done in middle school, try out for a sport. As Fall rolled by i decided to try out for Winter track. I was horrible at track and as a person who has never done a sport to do long distance was super difficult, but i kept on doing long distance and it was tough always being in the back. Although i was possibly the slowest on the team i still didn't get cut. As i go through Winter track i become faster and faster and when it ends i immediately have thoughts about joining spring track, so when tryouts happen again i fell much more better and i actually run with people instead of lag behind people this time. I had so many fun times during both Winter and Spring track and have made so many friends that are now important to me right now. I also improved my athletic ability by not wanting to run a mile to a six minute mile.
Over spring break my family decided to go to Cancun Mexico. The flight to Cancun was about four hours and it was not fun, but when we arrived it was super late and very warm outside of the airport. We soon arrived to out hotel and it was almost midnight when we ordered room service, it took 45 minutes to have a burger and two hot dogs to get to our room, and the worst part about it was that it didn't even taste good! We eventually fell asleep and woke up early the next morning and went to the beach, and I saw a lizard!! It was so cool. We soon after looked at pamphlets filled with fun activities and decided to go on a jungle tour, a town with many shops, and a scuba scooter tour. The first part of the jungle tour was zip lining, we had paintball shotguns and we shot targets, later we drove a four wheel dirt bike but i was very boring. The next day my family and I had a boat take us to this island where we stayed on a beach for about an hour. After that hour my brother, sister, and I went on this boat that took us to a reef so we could go scuba diving. This was my favorite part of my trip because I saw so much aquatic life and the water was very relaxing. After that the boat took us back to the beach and after another hour, we went to the town with many shops. One thing that was very interesting about the town was that basically every shop sold the same thing and they all were begging you to come into their shop. After my mom did some shopping we left the town and we arrived back to our hotel. The day after that my mom brother and I went to go scuba scootering, I hated it, there was pressurized tanks so we could breath under water but my ears felt very irritated like in an airplane, but worse. After they brought us up my mom threw up a lot, it was not a fun experience for all of us, except the fishes, they like barf. That was the final day and we left to go the airport and arrived back at JFK, during the flight my left ear got injured and i couldn't hear out of it for a day. Cancun was mostly fun cause of the food :D and our family bonded more.
Before my lunch period which is period seven, I had English class which is period six. I was hungry and wanted to eat something healthy rather then the usual lunch of the day and fries. I asked my 2 friends and my classmate next to me what and how I should order it. They laughed and asked if I was serious and I was very serious! My friend Alex told me the types of bread, meat, cheese, and vegetables that were available on the line and I still remember that i wanted turkey with provolone lettuce tomatoes and onions on my roll. So after my English class I entered the lunch room and waited on the line, I then repeated what I wanted to the lady and I got my sandwich, it was very tasty and I a sandwich everyday and it makes me feel more energized than I previously did. Instead of getting a roll and provolone I get a wrap and no cheese.
