North Korea is a country unlike any other. They commit an extraordinary amount of human rights violations that cause it to be compared to the likes of NAZI Germany. North Korea has total control over almost every aspect of a citizen’s life. The government won’t stand for any opposition. The UN report stated, “State surveillance permeates the private lives of all citizens to ensure that virtually no expression critical of the political system or its leadership goes undetected”. North Korea keeps its tight grip on its citizens by creating social classes people are born into. And the lower your social class, the less resources you get to live off of. One of the most inhuman acts they commit is forced starvation. The UN says that “North Korea uses food “as a means of control over the population” – with those deemed to be important to maintaining the state prioritised over those deemed to be “expendable” This all related back to Harrison Bergeron because of how the government controls it’s citizens. Both governments have full control of the populations lives and they decide how they live and what they do. It is important to know about North Korea so we are aware of the bad in the world. We know that this is wrong and we will do our best to not repeat it in the future.
