It is important to us to understand the consequences of posting harmful things online and things that we may regret in the future. Social media is becoming a huge attraction, especially for younger kids, so they might not know the difference between good things to post and bad things to post. It is critical, that we teach them young so they won't post anything they regret in the future.
Words matter. It is important to be careful about what you are saying towards someone online and that you are using the right tone. Treat others the way that you want to be treated. Only post kind or encouraging things online, you never know what someone may be going through. Don't be a hater... be a motivator!
Never just spread information. Be careful. Be skeptical. Add context. Never believe something that doesn't have proof behind it. And never spread rumors. Just because you heard something about someone that may sound true, that doesn't mean it is. Always be accurate about what you are posting. Never post something about someone that is harmful or something that is not 100% true.
Social media outlets are public spaces so anyone can see what you post. Never post something you might regret because even if you delete a post, it is still possible to get access to it, so make sure you think before you post. Don't act differently online than you would in any other public setting. Make sure to protect yourself. Use the highest level of privacy tools available to control access to your personal activity when appropriate.
