I chose this image because it shows one main stereotype from each race and shows that these are actually people like you and I who have feelings too. This image represents strength in it's own way to me. All of these people are standing up to the racial discrimination they receive and they are sending a message to others who experience it too. They are showing that anyone can stand up to racism and they can be a symbol of strength to those people.
This article explains how people of color are often treated differently or worse than people who were white while getting medical help. Dr. Ron Wyatt who was possibly discriminated recalls his medical experience where he wasn't treated with respect, wasn't given very much medical attention, and wasn't told how to get better despite a continuously rising fever. The article also talks about the more subtle racial biases that occur. “If you are African-American or Latino and you present to the emergency room with a broken leg or a kidney stone, for example, you’re less likely to be given analgesics at the recommended level,” Tene T. Lewis says, regarding the administration of medicines that relieve pain. In addition, she says, there have been similar racial differences found in cardiac care and some studies showing delays in kidney transplantation rate.” There is more racial bias than people think, they just don't realize it is happening to them.
This article talks about Kanye's opinions and his mindset about certain topics. Kanye believes that our lives are primarily the products of our choices. He says "When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years? That sounds like a choice." It also talks about Ben Carson believing poverty was a choice as well and that poor children "needed the mindset of a winner" to better their circumstances. Neither slavery nor poverty is a choice for people especially kids. Kids are often born into poverty and have no control over how much income their family makes. As for slavery slaves often tried to run away to resist slavery, however if they were caught punishment was severe.
This article talks about the cultural insensitivity a teacher like many others has. A 5th grade teacher used a racial slur while retelling a rhyme in class on multiple occasions while talking about racism and civil rights. This incident has caused many to want the teachers at this school to be required to take diversity and culturally awareness training. This has caused the school to spring into action in an attempt to incorporate cultural diversity in its everyday operations. “You have to build and really get buy in, get people to accept that we all are different and that's what's going to be our key lever to improve instruction,” Marcus Alexander, the district’s director of teaching and learning, said.
This song has so many secret meanings behind it from gun violence, to racism, to police brutality, and to using entertainment as a distraction. Childish Gambino is wearing pants that were worn by confederate soldiers during the civil war which was obviously a time of racism. Gambino also used movements and expressions that were similar to those of Jim Crow. Jim Crow was a caricature that was commonly used as a reference in minstrel shows in the 18 and 1900s. This was where white actors would perform in black face and act out black stereotypes.(Courtesy of BusinessInsider.com)
This Poem describes how regardless of your race that doesn't define who you are. If you are black that doesn't decide how you feel. If you are white that doesn't mean you are racist. If you are brown that doesn't decide how smart you are. To know someone you have to look beyond their appearance and more of their personality. Everyone decides who they are, not their skin color
