This song basically represents "otherness" because it is about racism and black people being treated differently. "I ain’t ashamed to be white, I ain’t ashamed to be Black." This part in the song represents that Logic is Biracial, and doesn't care. he doesn't care what skin color he has and believes he should be treated equally like everybody else. "I don't wanna be black, I don’t wanna be white, I just wanna be a man today." He doesn't want to be treated special because of his skin color, he wants to be treated like a normal human being and put aside what he looks like. this connects to TKAM because Tom Robinson gets othered in the book, and in this Logic is getting othered because he is biracial.
This represents 'otherness' because the main character in this article, Salissie, is granted a ceremony in Ethiopia, but would not be aloud a ceremony in america. "If a ceremony in 1930 honoring a black man had taken place in America, instead of Ethiopia, there most likely wouldn’t have been a story." this shows that the people in the united states are racist towards other races rather than white. "African Americans were excluded from membership — at least in Washington — through the 1940s.” It shows that African american people being othered by not being allowed to do things that white people could do. This connects to TKAM because in the book, Tom Robinson is being treated with disrespect and being accused of something he didn't do just because he is African American, and in this Salissie is being othered by not being allowed to be on the team of national geographic because of his skin color as well.
This piece represents “otherness” because Colin and Eric decide to take a stand by kneeling for the hundreds of unarmed black people being killed by police officers. These to risked their spot on an NFL team, but more importantly risked their lives being free. "In early 2016, I began paying attention to reports about the incredible number of unarmed black people being killed by the police." this quote shows that hundreds of unarmed black people are being killed. "A few weeks later, during preseason, my teammate Colin Kaepernick chose to sit on the bench during the national anthem to protest police brutality. To be honest, I didn’t notice at the time, and neither did the news media. It wasn’t until after our third preseason game on Aug. 26, 2016, that his protest gained national attention, and the backlash against him began." this quote represents that Colin kaepernick is being hated on for doing this act against racism. this situation connects to TKAM because Tom Robinson gets hate thrown at him, and eventually dies, and in this Colin and Eric get hated on for taking a stand against racism.
