In this article it explains that a student who is a victim of sexual assault did not report her assault because she was told not to and because her school does not do anything when they receive reports like this. They also mention that not only should the students who have committed a sexual assault crime be expelled but should be put in prison. In the article it states "... and this young women declined to report. But the circumstances raise questions about the kind of advice and support she received. Even more worrisome is that university officials had been told about other instances of sexual assault at this same fraternity but failed to investigate until the Rolling Stone reporter started asking questions" "Too little, far too late." This article speaks about how victims of rape crimes are put to blame for what happened to them. This article states that "People still ask, where was she? what was she wearing? How much was she drinking?" It also talks about because victims are put to blame they think they are guilty for what happened to them and are scared to report their assault. I agree because many people still put to blame the victims, scaring them and making them believe that they are the ones who caused everything. In reality its not their fault. Kingston, Anne. This blog post informed me about how frat guys talk freely among themselves about what sexual assault crimes they have committed, in the text she states that a frat member spoke about what crimes he has committed and spoke about how they intoxicate and drug young women to have "sex" with them. This article also spoke about how fraternities should include a required course teaching frat students to learn about consent, sexual assault, and signs about sexual assault. I agree that in not only fraternities but in every campus they should include a required sexual assault course. The fact that frat guys think it is okay to speak freely about such a serious and upsetting issue is really disrespectful to those who are scarred for life and for those who have witnessed and been through it. ***Schanen, Payton. The concept of this article is to explain how corrupt campuses are for not doing anything about the reports of sexual assault they receive. This article also states that banning fraternities should be the solution to stop sexual assault. I agree that the campuses are not doing enough, they put aside these cases and focus on how to make their school have a better reputation and a better academic statistic. *** Valenti, Jessica. "Frat brothers rape 300% more. One in 5 women is sexually assaulted on campus." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/sep/24/rape-sexual-assault-ban-frats
This article is written by a fraternity student who wants people to stop blaming only the fraternities for the issue of sexual assault. In the article he states "...Having parties and consuming alcohol are considered to be a part of why fraternity men are at a higher risk to commit sexual assault. However, what about the several other student organizations and sports teams which also consume alcohol and throw parties? Are they omitted from the stigma of sexual assault because they don't wear Greek letters?" (Stewart) Now I understand his point but statistics show that men are three times more likely to commit sexual assault. Rape crimes from fraternities have increased to in insane amount each year. This article simply is made by a student who is tired of having a label because of what fraternities are known for. ***Blaize Stewart, "Fraternities Should Not Be Scapegoats for the Issue of Assault," http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?p=OVIC&u=j084910011&id=GALE|EJ3010984207&v=2.1&it=r&sid=OVIC&asid=c10dca99.&authCount=1
