Stop and Think. Does that make sense? If it doesn't go back a reread. It is important to understand what you read. If you don't understand what you are reading you are just calling words. Examples: The bag(big) dog ran down the street. The girl was at the boor (door).
Say each sound in the word. Slide through the word and put sounds together. Make your vowel sound go up. Examples: dog.. d-o-g/dog, push... p-u-sh/push, and jeep...j-ee-p/jeep.
Look at the beginning sound of the word. "Get your mouth ready" to make the sound. Say the first sound of the word. Examples: bat-say /b/, chat- say /ch/, and trip-say /tr/.
Look for chunk or parts of a word you know. Break the word apart and sound it out. Examples: sh/ip fl/ow/er nap/kin
