In the story “Fahrenheit 451” and the real world the trend of mass technology and media causing a decrease in intelligence on a national scale. Guy Montag has noticed that the technology has caused a disconnection from his wife because she always wears headphones that have “both ears plugged with electronic bees”. This causes a disconnection and decrease in intelligence in his wife that is shown when she doesn’t even think about what Guy said when he told her “you took all the pills last night”, and she doesn’t even acknowledge him. Bradbury is showing that the heavy use of technology will cause a decline in the intelligence of the human race and that people need to pay more attention to education. This same pattern shows up in the real world in the last 20years of SAT scores have continuously declined ever since the popularity of smart phones and video games sky rocketed. In the book and the article it shows that technology has caused a decrease in intelligence of the average people in the United States. Life today and life in Fahrenheit 451 the popularity of technology has caused a decrease in literary knowledge. People must put down technology and pick up a book because if not the nations intelligence will continue to drop and throw our country into the world of 451.
