It takes true selflessness to realize your only a small part of a big picture. The quote between the times of 3:24 - 3:43 brought this to light because he chose not to only see the bigger picture but to act on what he saw. The sacrifice this child chose to make is one of many untold stories around the world that go unappreciated but have earned the title soldier. It takes true bravery to accept such a duty. It takes true selflessness to do it with honor
This story is titled SELFLESSNESS and definitely lives up to its name. The story has 2 men wishing for only there survival but only god can decide what prayers to answer. The sentence that truly touched me was the final line. SPOILER ALERT( God replies,"He prayed that all your prayers be answered'.) It touched me because the man who deserved to be saved gave his ticket to another who didn't deserve saving because he wanted him to live. I was left humbled reading a man was capable of such love to another that he no longer loves himself.
Dave Hartsock a veteran skydiving instructor was performing a tandem dive at 13,000-feet with Shirley Dygert when both of there parachutes failed to open but with seconds left until impact he rotated his body to cushion Shirley's fall. While she walked away from this incident with only minor injuries Dave would never be able to walk again for the rest of his life but when he was asked if he would do the same thing for a stranger if he knew what would happen to him and he replied with," When people do a tandem, they don't know about body position—they're just looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Shirley sure didn't know how to do it without hurting herself. Better me than her." It is needless to say why I picked this story. A man willing to give his own life for another's well being deserves the title of selfless.
This quote was written by Gretchen Rubin about selfless men and the true work and sacrifice given to be selfless. In the quote she states,"It takes energy, generosity, and discipline to be unfailingly lighthearted, yet everyone takes the happy person for granted." The burden a selfless man carries goes unnoticed because everyone else is too busy taking advantage of his generosity. I chose this quote to help acknowledge and bring gratitude to those who so deserve it but don't want it. (The quote is located 4 quotes down with a picture of a woman with brown strait hair)
Peter Vinczer is a Master Jeweler has spent his whole life helping others. The article was written on YorkRegion.com by Teresa Latchford to commemorate him and his life. The quote that separated him from the rest was, "It's important not just to take money out of your wallet, but to spread the passion to others", leading me to believe he is a good man and a better human than most. For example, on October 3, 2017 he organized a charitable concert to help "Southlake Regional Health Centre, Hungary and Pakistan flood victims, Kenyan orphans and abused children". I believe he is a perfect example of selflessness because he sacrifices a lot of his time to help others. (web page cannot be found on school wifi)
The poem "bloody hands" was written by Julia Traina on January 21st, 2015 at 9:09 am. The last two lines inspired me to pick this poem because they defined selfless as a sacrifice of ones needs for another's in an admirable and touching way. In the poem, it states,"even though I knew I would get hurt". It is selfless to help a man in need knowing you will hurt yourself in the process.
