Summary: This Public Service Announcement showed how many lives were lost on both sides. The United States Military lost over 5000 troops and people made signs that say over 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilians were murdered as a result of the Iraq war. In this video it shows how the violence is affecting younger kids by playing with guns and putting them to other young kids heads and they were smiling. This video shows soldiers crying about losing their fellow soldiers and friends maybe even loved ones. People were protesting for peace. Loved ones wondering when their family will be returned home from the war. They are showing gravestones, headstones, tombstones, caskets, full of dead soldiers and they are wondering when all the death will just finally stop. Reflection: In my opinion I found it sad that kids were playing with guns real or fake and putting them to other kids heads. But they don’t realize how horrific it is to be living in an environment where you don’t know if you are going to live or not to see the next day. It is depressing to see many lives being lost on both sides innocent or not, for a endless war. I believe this video only conveys and focuses on the death aspect of this war. I believe the person who made this public service announcement wanted you to feel negative about the war and make you sympathize about all the soldiers and civilians being lost. Summary: This political cartoon illustrates the struggle of Barack Obama to try and end the Iraq war against the wishes of the Republican Party. In the political cartoon it shows Uncle Sam who is illustrating The United States Government funding the Iraq war. The elephant is already much larger than other figures in the picture because it’s representing the money already sunk into the Iraq war. Barack Obama's size is smaller than the elephant and Uncle Sam and they appear to be ignoring the announcement that on December 31st, was the deadline for the United States Military to pull out of the war. Reflection: In my opinion I feel negatively about how much money was being put into the war and not into other things that can benefit our country more positively like education. I believe that Obama sympathized with the United States people about not getting enough money for education and healthcare. Obama brought the troops back home but he promised to do it 4 years earlier. Obama was frustrated and trying to call attention to congress continuously spending large amounts of money on the Iraq war and supporting an endless war. Summary: In this video Bush states that the U.S will be entering the war on Iraq to fulfill Operation Iraqi Freedom. He explains how victory will be their only outcome and saying how he will bring peace and freedom to the United states, and bring peace and freedom to other foreign countries like Iraq. Bush says he will make a great effort that our coalition of militants try and spare every innocent civilians life. In the video Bush states that he is going to target every single military high command of the Iraqi army so that Saddam Hussein's power will start diminish. Reflection: In my opinion when bush says that he will make a great effort to spare every innocent civilians life, it is him lying because there was over 100,000 civilian deaths in the Iraq war. It makes me positive to know that we are taking efforts to diminish Saddam Hussein’s power overall but, the way we are doing it is not how it was being portrayed in the video. President Bush in my opinion, was speaking as if the war wasn’t as sacrificing as it truly turned out to be. Summary: This source is illustrating the day to day life in Iraq in the years 2003, 2007, and 2008. These images in 2003 are mostly about soldiers training before and during the invasion of Iraq with heavy gear on them. In 2003 it also illustrated destroyed buildings and destruction/riots in the streets in Iraq. In 2007 and 2008 is where the soldiers start experiencing combat. One picture shows Iraqis rioting in the streets and taking down a statue of Saddam Hussein with the help of United States soldiers. Another picture shows how the U.S military raided a Iraqi man's home because he was suspected of being a Sunni Insurgent which is a militia group in Iraq. Reflection: In my opinion, it’s good that soldiers are prepared for conflict by being trained. I also believe that it is a positive thing that soldiers can still participate in their religious beliefs while at war. I think it is sad how the Iraqi civilians are caught in the crossfire between the U.S and militia/terrorist groups in Iraq. I also like how even though the U.S are stuck in the middle of an ongoing war, they are still able to enjoy their lives and have fun by going for a swim. Summary: Since the tragedy that occured on 9/11, the U.S has been at constant war with countries in the middle east such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. Somalia, Niger, and Jordan have also been victims of deadly attacks. The U.S military has over 7,602 soldiers in Iraq, 11,965 soldiers in Afghanistan, and 39,980 soldiers in Japan ( Defense Manpower Data Center, The New York Times). After 9/11 American leaders deemed that terrorism is now a permanent struggle against a permanent threat (New York Times). The U.S soldiers have been hunting down terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda, The Taliban, ISIS, and many more that have been deemed a threat by the U.S government and have kept American on their toes for the next assault/attack. Reflection: In my opinion, the U.S targeting a whole country instead of a specific group of terrorists causes a negative impact on our society because we are killing a bunch of innocent people while trying to target terrorists. The cost associated with gearing up over 270,000 fighting soldiers puts a financial burden in the United States. One positive outcome of this would be gaining intelligence on different militant groups in the middle east. Soldiers on both sides are dying which create a negative atmosphere on families back of service members who are deployed in the middle east. Summary: In 2003, President George W. Bush authorized the United States Military to begin Operation Iraqi Freedom, which was the invasion of Iraq for the purpose of removing Saddam Hussein from power. He announced this on national television. The motivation for America attacking Iraq was a result of the hijacking of commercial airlines and crashing them into the World Trade Center on September eleventh, 2001. Before Iraqi freedom, the United States government and military invaded afghanistan and removed government from power. After the Iraqi Freedom Operation, there was an investigation that found no direct link between the Iraqi government and the tragedy on 9/11. Therefore, people thought the government of the United States manipulated information about justifying Iraqi freedom. Reflection: In my opinion, I believe that the buildings fell down in America caused a financial loss to America. Also the buildings that were destroyed in Iraq caused a financial loss to Iraq. Increased the security measures in the United States for airlines that made traveling a lot safer and they it caused traveling to get more expensive. In Iraq the destruction brought on by the war made people homeless, and loss of family members.
