The article addresses the many points of contention between the arguments of whether or not to put a ban on "assault weapons" by providing several reasons and statistics on how a ban would not only not reduce crime, but increase it. ***"Ten Reasons Why States Should Reject 'Assault Weapon' and 'Large' Magazine Bans," National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), June 2014. This article provides a contrasting view on the gun laws, emphasizing the need for gun control as "seven children or teenagers are shot dead on average every day. Once a week a toddler injures someone with a gun."(Younge). Due to these issues, a ban on guns would reduce the amount of injuries by gun, but it seems unlikely that deaths would decrease. ***Younge, Gary. This article, while supporting gun control, provides a dual perspective on the argument of gun control. As stated by the article, "America's pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.""(ProCon.org) providing a contrasting view to their stance on gun control. ***“Gun Control - ProCon.org.” Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted in the United States?, gun-control.procon.org/.
The infographic provides a large amount of factual evidence on the benefits of guns. The large amount of statistical evidence such as that guns protect a life 80 times more than to take one or that women use a gun 200,000 times a year to defend against sexual abuse (americangunfacts.com) help give a reason to defend the 2nd Amendment. ***“Guns in America | Facts and Statistics about Firearms in the USA.” Guns in America | Facts and Statistics about Firearms in the USA, americangunfacts.com/.
This quote provides a good example of one of the reasons why the 2nd Amendment should be protected. While America's founding fathers didn't know the possibilities of warfare, they did know how a citizen thought. While the semi-automatic or machine gun didn't exist, the need for the American people to be able to use firearms to defend themselves is a necessity for America to be the great country that it is. ***“A Quote by Benjamin Franklin.” Goodreads, Goodreads, www.goodreads.com/quotes/140634-those-who-would-give-up-essential-liberty-to-purchase-a.
Despite the large opposition, it is often true that the people who have never owned or fired a firearm support gun control. As stated by Courtney, "I cannot state this enough: these uneducated people vote. They watch the “news.” They listen to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and believe Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama when either of them says anything about the scary, black boom-boom sticks. Or even just the regular variety boom-boom sticks." The gun-control supporters often don't know all the facts for a gun and assume the thing that fires bullets is the problem instead of who's firing. It goes back to the idea that guns don't kill people, people kill people.
