Technology has become the center of the world and there are many things in our life that revolve around it. Jobs, education, political views, are some just to name a few. Pretty much if you name it, there’s a good chance that technology has a role in it. Fahrenheit 451 has characteristics of a Cooperate Control dystopia and the article “How Does Social Media Shape Our Political Views?” shows us that today’s world has some of those same characteristics. The article talks about how social media is “about creating a comfortable place to hang out. And it works.”This is good “Until it’s time to expand our worldview and explore all sides of an issue.” On social media we see what we want to see based on who we follow and pay attention to. So with only one of the same opinion being shown to us, we are bound to believe what we see if we are shown it enough times. This situation is similar to what is going on in “Fahrenheit 451”. Products and media are being run by larger corporations and this is shaping what the people believe. They believe life is all perfect and happy because the government gives them things like the TV’s and earbuds to give them the illusion of a perfect world. Technology is the center of the world and almost everybody’s life revolves around it. Like Mildred, Montag asked her “Will you turn the parlor off?" he asked” and she replied with "That's my family.” When someone spends that much time with something, they are going to believe whatever they are being told. That’s why she thinks the people on the TV’s are her family. She’s been brainwashed into thinking it. And that is exactly what social media is doing to our political views. We are being brainwashed.
