As a new teacher, I was determined to get my students speaking. Everybody wants to get their students speaking, right? It’s the holy grail of language class, basically.
It dawned on me that what my students were REALLY saying was that they were having trouble asking new and inventive questions...Students begin to attend to grammar when they realize it makes a difference, so it is at that moment that we clarify or model how the grammar should be.
Each slide has a new topic. Slides change every minute. Ask your partner as many questions as you can about the topic before it changes. Respond to your partner's questions as completely as you can. Practice and have fun!
My next project will be to color code the questions- BASIC INFO questions in green, OPINION questions in blue, DESCRIPTION questions in RED… and then have students pick 1 of each color to answer
The week leading up to finals, we did some interpersonal activities to prepare the students, to try and ease their nerves. It made me realize that I need to be doing these things on a weekly basis.
