The side effects of performance-enhancing drugs can be dangerous and negative for athletes causing health issues including strokes and heart attacks. This website describes the health issues that are caused from using these steroids. For example, PEDs have the ability or potential to drastically alter the human body and biological functions. If they were enforced better then these players and athletes won't be getting hurt physically and mentally. The website goes over anything that could happen to the people that use these steroids. For example all the physical effects that happen, acne, male pattern baldness, liver damage premature closure of the growth centers of long bones (in children) which may result in stunted growth stunted growth and disruption of puberty in children. This website was great for facts on the psychological effects, and physical effect from these steroids. These steroids may help you succeed in sports but they don't help anything with you're health.
These steroids are getting more and more popular, and they are easier to get. More athletes can get there hands on them and as we know there basically just good at harming the users. "Given the potential financial rewards of athletic success, it’s no surprise that we’ve been witness to a seemingly endless procession of allegations and scandals." if there was a harsh punishment for the use of these substances it would obviously cut down the use of these substances, for example if a MLB player were to use the substance they would be suspended for an entire year, not just twenty-five games. If they enforce harsher punishments then they could lower the amount of substances that are illegal. They could let the players take unsubscribed medicine without getting a suspension. Thus clearing an absurd amount of issue in pro sports.
As we all know steroids are running through all the sports today, especially baseball. Steroids can completely change the game, as this website states "the use of performance-enhancing drugs is not accidental; it is planned and deliberate with the sole objective of getting an unfair advantage." Pro sports are competitive but we can not allow people to use these drugs just to get an advantage. It makes the game unfair. The only way to stop the users are to punish them, when the player does this once they get a suspension, just a suspension doesn't get it through their heads. They will go back to using the steroids again and again. This first use needs to be an alarm for the league they are playing in, the league needs to be on their ass about every little thing after they are caught. If this were to be put into place then we won't have people like Alex Rodriguez using steroids 6 years out of a 12 year career.
This website gives you multiple examples of times these drugs were used. Clearly they are a problem but the punishments for these players are not harsh enough to enforce the rules. For example, "diuretics are banned because they can be abused to mask other drugs in urine tests.." Not to long ago a top college prospect for the NFL used this to mask the drug he was taking while participating in the regular season for his college. His punishment was a major drop in the draft and a five game suspension. That is not bad for someone that cheated his entire college career. Other players look at this incident and realize that they could cheat like him and still make it to the NFL. This past draft something extremely similar happened. A player took drugs and used diuretics to mask the drugs he used during the combine. which is where all the prospects basically try-out for the NFL. This guy went into this thinking he would get off easy like the last guy that did it. Sadly, this guy dropped so far in the draft that he went undrafted. He was a good enough player that he could have killed the combine and got drafted high without the steroids he took. A great player was wasted on these stupid steroids. If the punishments were bigger and harsher then they are these players won't fall into the trap of taking a steroid and ruining there career.
This website just goes over the specific details of anabolic steroids. It went over who uses them, why they use them, health risk, and how they are taken. For example, steroids aren't just used in sports. People take them all the time for school, their jobs anything. This is why these are so dangerous, not all know about the steroids and what they do, if they enforced the punishment and the way people learned about them this wouldn't be a problem. This website also shows us how they are taken, there are so many ways to get and to take these steroids. Its not safe for the users and they aren't getting any smaller. They can be taken orally or they could be injected. Both ways are terrible for the body and we need a way to enforce this upon the people interested in using them.
