Suitcase (Acoustic) by Hunter Hayes is a song about leaving everything you don't need behind. This includes technology. My favorite line(s) in this song is "Really what else do we need/If the sky and the stars come free". I think that the acoustic version of this song is better than the original because it sounds more "non-technological" than the original. Yes, the instruments are bits of technology but it is not technology like smartphones and computers that make our lives more "robotic".
Today, many children enjoy playing video games and using the computer, tablet, or smartphone to entertain themselves. While there are some apps and websites that can help a child learn, technology is not so great for kids. Studies have been showing that when a child spends too much time on the computer, smartphone, etc., it wires their brains in ways that greatly differ from past generations, and not in a good way. Technology is changing the imaginative part of children's brains. The internet is teaching kids to scan for information which makes it unnecessary to use their imagination and it affects how children develop memories. Most kids will choose to play on their devices instead of going outside to play with friends. For example, my younger brother has played video games for many years. He refuses to go outside for anything other than going to the car to go to school and other small things. He has a vitamin D deficiency, meaning he doesn't get enough vitamin D. His skin seems to have a greenish tint to it because of this. Video games has caused him to have severe anger problems that have developed into him getting angry at the smallest things like having difficulty cutting a thick steak or the cat getting on his desk. He hides away in his room most of the day and is rarely seen doing anything other than playing video games. With more technology being created, more kids will want to stay inside, and soon more kids may become the same way as my brother.
Art has been around in many different forms for many centuries. It has changes with us, and as we create new technologies, we create new art. We've developed new programs, such as Photoshop, Light Room, and Paint that allow us to create digital art and edit our photography. Cameras have improved as technology is created too. Today, we have digital cameras with many settings that make it easier to photograph what we want. The internet has also had a big impact on art. People will share their art on art sites and social media. You can also find photography websites where individual photographers share their works.
During the World Wars, we've developed many new technologies to help us win. In World War I, we created tanks, flamethrowers, gas bombs, submarines, hydrophones, and many other things. These technologies did make it more challenging to win, but it also made it easier by reducing numbers of soldiers, eventually leading to victory. During World War II, we developed the atomic bomb and the first computer, Colossus. Colossus was used during the war to help decode messages. Colossus was eventually shut down after the war, but it led to the development of new computers, which would lead to those that we have today.
Technology allowed for the development of nuclear weapons, which was a major cause in the Cold War. During the Cold War, the U.S. and the Soviet Union both threatened to launch the atomic bomb into each other. This caused a lot of innocent civilians to live in fear of being blown up. At the end of World War II, the United States launched two atomic bombs on Japan. Many innocent people died due to these bombs. The atomic bomb also caused mass destruction and lots of radiation was released, which is harmful to the environment.
Weapons and military vehicles have been greatly improved with technology. The U.S. military has been experimenting with laser technology to enhance their weapons. In 2014, the U.S. Navy installed a laser-weapon system called LaWS onto a ship out in the Persian Gulf. There are plenty of laser weapons and high tech military vehicles in Star Wars, but those have led to thousands of deaths and destruction. If we can get laser weapons, so can others, which may lead to dangerous laser wars.
Prosthetic body parts have been improving with the help of new technologies. They are becoming more life-like and more flexible to help the user move it easier. In Star Wars, Luke gets his hand cut off by his father, he is given a bionic prosthetic by a medical droid. It is very realistic and it is programmed to move just like a real hand. In Star Trek, La Forge uses a technological visor to cure his blindness. One day, it may be possible to help others by using technology to improve how we cure things like blindness and loss of limbs.
Communicating has been made easier with the help of the technologies we've created. Email text, video chat, call, radio news, news on T.V., and the web has greatly benefited socialization. People can find out about what is happening in the world, chat with friends and family, get help from others, sell and buy items, and many more things that these technologies provide. Social media is one of the most common ways that technology has improved communication other than calls and text. It allows people to share photos, thoughts, and how their day was. Though technology has greatly improved communication, it has also caused some harm to it. For example, people will be on the internet or doing something else on their devices instead of talking to their friends and family who are sitting at the same table for dinner. Technology has also allowed people to communicate in unfriendly ways too, as in cyber-bullying.
The Circle encourages its employees to use its social media; in fact, they are forced to use it. The Circle's technology brainwashes the employees to believe that they must share everything. It is encouraged for Circlers to post about every fifteen minutes, so people always know what the person is doing. The Circle developed a new technology and way of sharing that they called transparency. Those who are transparent, which is almost all employees, have to have their cameras on all the time. When they're in the bathroom, they can't turn it off, they can only turn off sound for a few minutes. They have to have the camera on until ten pm, when they're allowed to turn it off to go to bed, but as soon as they get up, they have to put it back on. This leaves them with very little privacy. The Circle also has surveillance cameras and others who are transparent can catch you on camera, making it even harder to find privacy.
The Circle develops new technologies to improve the world. They developed a submarine that could explore the Mariana's Trench and discovered new life forms, like the mysterious shark. The Circle also had a health program, which Mae adds her parents to so her father could have better care to cover his MS medications. The Circle's program allowed Mae's father to have all he needed for less money and also allowed her mother to be able to go out and do more things without worrying about Mae's father too much. Many Circle employees were happy with their work place and all of its technologies. At the Circle, they believe that they can do anything with the technologies they make if they work hard enough.
In today's culture, celebrities are bombarded by paparazzi on a day to day basis. Technology has allowed people to take pictures of others, sometimes without consent. People can also post pictures online and sometimes the people in the photos do not want the image to be shared online. This can cause problems between the person sharing and the person in the photo.
