Anti-abortion activist, David Daleiden won an appeal in federal court against 2 lab employees who wanted their names to redacted from public records about their work, procuring, processing, and transferring organs and tissue from aborted baby fetuses. Daleiden pushed for the 2 workers to be left in the records. David first got attention back in 2015 when he released a video from his 3 year investigation on Planned Parenthoods selling of aborted fetuses tissue and organs to research facilities.
"There so much loud, heated discussion about abortion in America, but very few voices from women who have had abortions have been added to the debate," said photographer Allison Joyce, for the photo essay, " Abortion, After the Decision." This photo essay is telling the stories of 5 women who had abortions and how they feel about the choice they made and how that affected their lives now. One of the women photographed was Jennifer. She was 17 when she got pregnant and had a abortion. She says, "I was against abortion-I really was- I was against it. I was able to go to school and not worry about anything, so it was definetly the best decision I ever made sadly."
Millennials have been known to take a more Democratic stance when it comes to gay marriage and drug legalization. But recent polls have shown millennials to take a more Republican approach when it comes to abortion. President of student life, Kristan Hawkins says, " Over the past 10 years, the image of the Pro-life movement brand still carries an image which many people don't wanna associate with themselves, despite their views on abortion." Faced with the down in popularity, the pro-choice movement have started marketing themselves as pro-women. That didn't help or harm their popularity.
Abortion is a huge ethical argument the American government has been divided about for decades. This year 57% of americans say that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. The Republican party has shown a range of views that change year to year. While Democrats have struck pretty hard to their beliefs of keeping abortion legal.
Many people in this world self-identify as pro-life, rather than anti-abortion. So why does the pro-life movement focus on abortion? 40 million babies died of abortion in 2015. The Aids pandemic from the 1980's to know has taken 39 million lives, which is less than yearly aborted babies rate in a year. These statistics will make you re-think your views of abortion.
In less than 6 weeks, Republicans plan to put in place a law a law that will abortions in pregnancies as early as 6 weeks, before most people even know their pregnant. This law known as H.R. 490 would ban abortion were a the fetuses heartbeat can be detectable. Bill sponsor, Steve King (Republican) says that, " Since Roe v. Wade was unconstitutionally decided in 1973, nearly 60 million innocent babies," lives have been ended by the abortion industry, all with a rubber stamp by the federal government,". North Dakota and Arkansas became the first states to pass this law back in 2013 ( Arkansas has 12 weeks law instead of a 6 week law)
