The Anaconda Plan was General Winfield Scott's plan to block out and cut off the Confederacy from the rest of the world. It was a way to defeat the south in a very slow way but it ended up working out at the end. His plan was not first accepted by the Union but once the Union understood his plan the Union used the plan and ended up defeating the confederacy.
Winfield Scott was one of the most important figures in the military back then. He was in the military for 53 years during his life. During his first eighteen months of a war he learned many problems going on during the war. Winfield Scott wrote a book to set the bylaws of being a soldier. Scott tried to become a president but ended up getting beat in the race for president. Winfield Scott ended up passing away in West Point 1866.
Winfield Scott was always loyal to the Union no doubt. Like George Washington Scott was always loyal and ended up helping out the right people to win the war. With his plan he ended up fulfilling his duty. He wanted to set out the plan he had created for the people of the Union to know that the Confederacy could be taken down. With just this plan they managed to do everything they needed to. They were able to take the capital of the Confederacy and defeat the south which made them think they could do anything. Scott's whole plan was to sneak around the United States to be able to come from the north side of the Confederacy to be able to take them down.
At the time of the creation of this plan Scott ended up talking to the President at the time which was Abraham Lincoln many times and discussed the plan together. The plan he created suggested sending 60,000 men to the Mississippi as well as boats with guns on them to protect them from the rebels. Once the plan was fully ready it was put into action in 1862. The final purpose of the plan was to capture Richmond Virginia. The people wanted to overrun the capital of the confederacy which was Richmond Virginia.
