This is served all over Mexico, Central and South America. It is a soup made up of a variety of ocean animals. For example, catfish, shrimp, octopus, squid, mussels, blue crabs. You would never expect a soup to be full of different kinds of animals and taste so good. It is the same in the world you wouldn't expect the world to be so amazing and beautiful with people that are different but it is. People from all over the world make up a beautiful world as the sea animals make a tasty dish. This is an important comparison to me because it shows how different animals come together to a tasty dish as people come together and create a beautiful diverse world.
A podcast from the creators of This American Life. This podcast is called Serial. This podcast is about a teenager in which is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Hae. It talks all about his trial and the clues that mention that he could be innocent. In one of the episodes it talks about how he could've been sentenced as guilty because of his race and religion. The judge and officers in charge of this case shouldn't have discriminated against Adnan because someone's race or religion does not define them. Thanks to all the religions in the world, the world is unique. Not because someone is different we should discriminate against them. This is an important podcast in my life because it shows how even in crime scenes people are diverse. There is no certain type of race or religion where all the people in that group are the same or all good or bad.
This is a Spanish TV show that gives life lessons. this particular one is about segregating because of skin color. Parents of a young girl segregate her boyfriend because he has dark skin. At the end they realize that he is a good person and that he is very valuable. they end up accepting him as their daughters boyfriend. They end up getting married and have beautiful kids. This shows how around the world different people live and no matter who someone is the important thing is what is inside their hearts. I am connected to this show because it shows valuable lessons in life. It also shows you that discriminating against someone can hurt people and karma gets you back. This is actually one of my favorite TV shows.
The Fosters is a TV show in which two moms raise a multi-ethnic mix of teens. These two mom adopted four kids and one of them is Stef's biological son. this show demonstrates how pretty a family can be no matter the skin color or race of a person. One of my favorite part in this show is when the mom's celebrate Mariana's quinceañera even though they don't celebrate that in an american society. Diversity is what defines this family and is what makes them a unique family. this show is important to me because it symbolizes how diversity not just in the world but in families can be beautiful and still be a family.
Cesar Chavez is a Hispanic icon. Cesar fought for the rights of farm workers. Cesar himself experienced racism, not enough labor pay, corrupt contractors etc. He wanted everyone's job experience to be fair. He fought for these rights through marches, boycotts, and hunger strikes and never used violence. This shows how if people from different cultures, countries, and ethnicity didn't exits the world would be very different. This icon is an important person to me because since my family has a history of working in farms years ago they could have been the ones that were treated unfairly. Working on farms is a very hard job physically and I am thankful that my family is very hard working.
'El emigrante' , a spanish song talks about how immigrants from mexico come to the U.S. It talks about all the struggles immigrants have to face from crossing the border, to how hard it is to be away from all your family members. When immigrants come to the United states everything becomes a melting pot and the world. The more diverse the world, the prettier it is. This is an important song for me because once my grandparents were immigrants that left there children behind. They came to the U.S to work to feed there children. My grandparents had thirteen children. It was very hard for them to leave their loved once behind. they made a lot of sacrifices and thank to them I have an opportunity for a good education.
Painter Frida Kahlo was a Mexican self-portrait artist who was married to Diego Rivera and is still admired as a feminist icon. Frida's artwork has inspired so many people. Frida pianted surrealistic paintings that are very different than usual paintings. These paintings define Who Frida is. Fida is unique and is her own self. She isn't afraid to show people who she really is. Being from Mexico also distinguishes Frida. Frida is diverse but is as human as anyone else. Thanks to all the artwork Frida has painted the world has seen a little of what art from another culture can look like. This is important to me because I am Hispanic and to see someone else with the same culture expressing what she felt in her drawings inspires me.
Civil rights activist Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat to a white passenger, spurring the Montgomery boycott and other efforts to end segregation. Rosa Parks fought for what she thought was right. Rosa wanted a world where everyone could fit in. In my opinion by letting everyone be themselves and still fit in with the rest of the world makes the world even more beautiful. This is important to me because it helps me realize how everyone should stand up for their rights.
“You think this is okay?”Mercer said. “You know how they framed it for me? It's the usual Utopian vision. This time they were saying it’ll reduce waste. If stores know what their customers want, then they don't overproduce, don't over-ship, don't have to throw stuff away when its not bought. I mean, like everything else you guys are pushing, it sounds perfect, sounds progressive, but carries with it more control, more central tracking of everything we do.”(pg 260-261). In this book diversity starts off being very important and ends off being not really important. At the beginning, The circle company wants a diverse population working at their company but ends up wanting to turn everyone to one perfect human being that is the same as everyone else. If The Circle would stick to being diverse it could expand, be unique and even more people would want to join. As a human being myself I wouldn't want to be the same as everyone else.
"Its ugly record of brutality is widely known. Negroes have experienced grossly unjust treatment in the courts. There have been more unsolved bombings of Negro homes and churches in Birmingham than in any other city in the nation." Luther explains how African-Americans were being treated unfairly. Luther's point of this letter is to show that everyone should be equal because we are all human beings. The skin color of a person shouldn't matter. Luther explains his words in the letter with calmness and elegance. How Luther explains his letter makes me realize how mean human beings can be. It makes me want to be a better person day to day.
