My parents didn't always celebrate Christmas like everyone does. When I was younger my parents would simply say “Merry Christmas!” and then we would just watch football or go to a friend’s house. You see my parents never really understood the point of giving or receiving gifts, (unless from work of course) one day when I was in Denton Avenue Elementary school my teacher asked me what I had gotten for Christmas, and all I could do was just stare at her and then eventually say nothing. That day I had went back to my parents and told them about this. Their response surprised me because they promised me that they would get me something next year, and yes in case you were wondering my parents had already told me that the whole Santa deal was fake. As the next year Christmas was nearing I was starting to think that my parents were just lying about the gifts but, I didn't bother asking. So, I got into a routine of making up stuff whenever teachers asked me what I had received for Christmas and It wasn't that hard. Years passed and soon I was in Herricks Middle School. I remember that week before Christmas break I was sitting in my ELA class wondering if teachers asked about Christmas because I was running out of ideas. That year on Christmas day I was in my room reading Harry Potter and my parents said that we had to get ready to go to church. My parents dropped my sister and me at our church early and they came an hour later. Although I shouldve have been suspicious about why they were late, I didn't really care. That night when we got back, we found presents under our beds (we didn't have a tree) and we have been getting presents ever since. This years Christmas was even more special, on Christmas day my parents went to church early to help out with the decorations. So my sister and I had about two hours to set up a Christmas tree that we secretly bought with our grandparents. We also bought my parents some gifts and took all the gifts, including ours and put it under the tree. We all got back from church together and as my parents walked into the room they were so surprised and happy. This is definitely a moment that I will remember for a long time.
Football has always been one of my favorite sports to both play and watch. Throughout the years of watching professional football, I have come to a conclusion that the New England Patriots are one of my favorite NFL teams. The reason why I started to like the Patriots is because during the 2007 super bowl I had went to my father’s friends house and everyone there, including my father loved the New York Giants. Of course the Giants win the game 17-14 and I started supporting the underdogs, and I started to support the patriots. Over the years the Patriots started to dominate the national football league and soon they were back in another super bowl. Super bowl 49 of 2015 was honestly one of the greatest super bowls that I have ever watched. The game had started with Tom Brady and the Patriots in the lead and by the fourth quarter with one minute left the Seattle Seahawks had the ball at goal line with the patriots in the lead by a couple of points. Everyone had thought it was over with one minute left, the seahawks were just a few feet away from winning super bowl 49. As Russell Wilson gets the ball he throws the supposed game-winning touchdown only to be intercepted by rookie patriots cornerback that was not even supposed to be playing in the super bowl and that lead the Patriots to victory over the Seahawks in super bowl 49. Although super bowl 49 seemed like it would be a loss for the Patriots, Super bowl 51 started out even worse. My friends and I all were very excited to watch the game because we expected the Patriots to dominate the Falcons, But as we watched we saw what was happening. It was devastating to watch, by the end of the third quarter the Patriots were down 28 to 9. By this time we all decided to leave because there really was not point of watching the game because we were 100 percent sure that the Patriots lost. As I got home my sister was screaming because the Patriots had scored and suddenly I hoped that I was about to witness the greatest comeback in super bowl history, and I did. Tom Brady brought the Patriots back and won with James White
The midterms were the biggest tests I had received all year and although I was prepared to take all the exams, I was very nervous. The picture I used for this is a picture I took after the midterms when my friends and I decided to go to someone's house. We were all both tired and relieved that our midterms we over. This is a very important moment for me because it helps me understand that through all the stress of school there will be times of relief. I remember going to school early that day and it was pouring outside. The fact that it was raining made everything worse because it just ruined the mood and made me even more anxious and worried about the exams. But, when I finished the exam and walked outside it was sunny and dry. So we all decided that we needed to loosen up because of all the exams we had taken this week and we decided to go to and order food at a friends house. Our friends parents were very strict but they were not home and he assured us that it was okay to come. Once we got to his house we ordered Chinese food from a nearby store and we started to watch a movie. This is when everything started to go wrong. Once the food delivery guy got there it turns out the food we bought was double the price my friend thought he had. Instead of canceling the order he goes into his parents' room and pays a total of $50 to the delivery guy. He rushed downstairs and was extremly angry, He started yelling at everyone and asked who ordered this much food. But we all took it as a joke and started laughing. Everything just got worse as more people started coming into his house and soon there were so many people that there wasn't enough food. This was a problem because everyone tried to get as much as they can and spilled the drinks all over the floor. Without thinking twice my friend kicked everyone out but then we all came back and helped him clean up because we knew how his parents would react. Overall, this moment deserves to be in my curation because it reminds me of the limited amount of time I have to spend with my friends.
This is a group picture I took with my friends after we went for candy on halloween. This moment is very important to me because it brought back a lot of memories of my years in denton and the middle school during halloween. Many people told me that I'm too old to go trick or treating and that you should just visit a friends house or have a party. But, my friends and I realized that soon we will stop for good so we might as well go for one last time and this time was the best. We walked to a lot of houses as a huge group and would take all the candy. Although what we did sounds mean, if someone is not home or is too lazy to hand out candy that they leave bucket out saying take candy then we take all of it because we have like 20 people with us. After almost an hour of walking to houses we decided to stop and we walked to Park Circle. Once we got there we decided to play football with another group of kids and the best part was that after playing football we went over to a friends house and we watched horror movies and ordered food. After this I walked home and I got a call. My friend who had moved when I was younger asked me if I wanted to go out and get some candy and although I was tired I agreed to go. I met up with him near him and he told me that he just moved in here three days ago and he's bringing some of his friends along too. So we spent the next few hours finding the biggest houses in his neighborhood and asking for candy and I loved it because we recalled so many memories of us when we were in elementary school. Overall, this moment definitely belongs in my curation because I had a lot of fun spending time with my friends on a holiday that we probably won't be celebrating any more and I got a chance to talk with an old friend that I have not seen since my elementary school years.
This is a picture of the lighthouse in Montauk, Long Island. I took this picture when I went to Montauk during spring break. My parents don't usually like to travel but this time my cousins had come over and we all forced my parents to go. My cousins (from my mom’s side) are from London and they love to travel. My uncle and aunt go everywhere, like Paris, Poland, India, and even Australia. So when they came here my parents knew they had to go somewhere and so my mom decided that she would like to go to montauk and we all happily agreed. So once we all agreed on going we just packed some extra clothes, snacks, and left the next day. See, the problem with this was that we didn't know how long we were staying or what exactly we are going to do there and My sister and I did not ask these questions to my parents because we knew that by doing so we would probably not go.Eventually, once we got there I asked my parents and surprisingly they said that they had planned everything out with visiting lighthouse to going to the beach. Once we got to the light house area we paid to get in and before we went inside we had to go through the small museum. The best part of the whole trip was as soon as we got to the lighthouse the tour guide tells us to be prepared because there are 137 steps to get to the top. Surprisingly my mom started quickly going up the stairs saying that she hopes our legs wont get tired and we all laughed at this as started to walk up the stairs. Overall, I think this belongs in my curation because this day was full of surprises and it was like a family reunion with cousins that I saw nearly 5 years ago and the spending time with them was amazing.
I’ve attended homecoming every since my sister started high school, which is since 6th grade for me. Homecoming was always a big thing for me, and because it truly kick started each one of my school years, and this year’s homecoming was especially great because it was like a preview of the high school years I had just started. The main attractions of homecoming is the football game, the rides and food. I love to go to homecoming that I don't even care when we lose the game and when we do win the night gets even better as we all run into the football field to congratulate our amazing football team. I remember when we all met up at my house and we started walking to the high school. We knew it was going to be a long walk but nobody could give us a ride and that was when we saw a senior from our high school. We had met the senior earlier on in the year and he offered to give us a ride there. The only problem was his car could only fit about four people and there were about 10 of us. So we crammed into his car, luckily it only took us a few minutes to get there because my friend was siting on my lap and my legs were numb. Once we got there the first thing we did is look for everyone else. Once we met up with everyone we went to get food and play football. Soon the game had started and it was starting to get cold , so we decided to just sit on the bleachers. Soon it felt as if the temperature dropped by 10 degrees, and to make matters worse everyone was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The night ended with everyone huddled together on the top row of bleachers with a cup of hot cocoa in their hands, we complained about how bad the hot cocoa was while we watched the end of the game. Although Homecoming was great, it is just like Battle, it reminds me of the limited amount of time that I can spend with my friends. Many people say to not worry because you have four more years left to enjoy but I think of today’s date and sit amazed on how fast the year has went by. Just like Battle, homecoming really allows me enjoy my years of high school and helps me realize that I should cherish each and every moment of high school, even if it's not very good.
I chose this moment to be in the curation of my year because It was an very important picture. This picture was taken after my first time participating in The Herricks Battle of Classes, and this moment is really important because it helped me come to an conclusion that the Herricks High school is way better than Herricks Middle School. Battle was near the end of march and throughout the whole year I had thought that freshman year was horrible and I wanted to go back to the middle school, and by the time Battle came around I realized how valuable my High school years were. Battle day started with each grades showing off their hallways and I remember walking through our hallway and thinking about how bad ours was compared to the other grades' hallways. Throughout the day we barely did any work in any of my classes, this was also the first Battle for some of my teachers as well. In my math class that day my new teacher would ask all the sophomores about Battle and if she should bring her daughter. Even though Battle didn't start till after school there were many Battle events during the day and right after school before we all went to the gymnasium. Watching the pie eating contest was pretty disgusting because someone threw up after eating a ton of pies but watching the cup stacking challenge was fun. The sophomores won the cup stacking challenge but it was a lot of fun watching everyone get super frustrated as they knocked their cups down. I watching the seniors win and I was happy for them, in fact everyone was. That was when I realized that I will only be able to spend another four more years with my friends and that I need to take high school a lot more seriously.
