This movie is based in England during the Cold War. It is about how there is a mole in MI6. The government hires a former agent to root out the mole. He finds out that there are 4 people giving intel to the Russians. The agent tracks the agent that was first corrupted down and has him arrested. This movie isn’t completely factual but is mainly based off of what was really happening during the cold war. We all know the big things such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Bay of Pigs because they were publicized but this film gives insight into what was going on that nobody was really noticing.
This is an image of former US president John F Kennedy and former leader of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev arm wrestling while both sitting on their own nuclear bombs with fingers right over the launch button. In this we see that they are both sweating. This is because neither of the two men truly want to start a nuclear war. They have seen what the bombs can do and that is why neither of them actually hit the button.
This poem is talking about how life came to be during the cold war. People were constantly afraid of what could happen. Vivid imaginations of all the possibilities of what is to come. Then on TV the would see the war ridden countries in ruins. It’s interesting to see that even though there weren’t any actual attacks on our soil the fact that people were constantly in fear of the possibilities. Having wonder what would happen, whether it a bomb being dropped, soldiers coming to their house, or tanks rolling through their streets. This helps me get into the minds of the people who had to live through the cold war.
In this photograph we can see former US president John F Kennedy sitting talking to former leader of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev. This is a meeting meant to discuss the aftermath of the Bay of Pigs. At this point in time Khrushchev and JFK don’t seem to be angry with each other which is interesting because after this point you would expect them to be angry with one another. I believe that they aren’t angry because the two are both smart enough to know that they don’t want to start a nuclear war.
This is an opinion piece looking back on the events of the cold war. The main argument is that after the Cold War America’s decisions were wrong. We believed that the rest of the world should look like our own country. It talks about how after the war we missed out on the ability to form strong international connections. As well as we just left the war torn countries all on their own to pick up the pieces that we left behind. In addition it talks about how once 9/11 occured the US started acting in ways that Superpowers do once they are on the decline, such as going into wars that were far away and had no real reason for happening. I found this source very interesting, some of the things I read I didn’t really know anything about. I haven’t kept up much with politics and reading about what caused the decisions to be read was cool and kind of scary, reading that the actions that the US has been making is that of a country in decline is not something that I want to read.
This article discusses the Bay of Pigs. The author is trying to figure out what went wrong with the bay of pigs. She interviewed different people who were involved in the actual invasion, they said that they were promised air support but it never came. She also interviewed a senator that said he had talked to the president about the invasion and he made it sound as if there was supposed to be air support. This article was able to show me how people felt while this event was going on. It having happened over 50 years ago I know what happened but not how people felt during it. It helped me learn that the people felt betrayed by the US during this fight.
