Ciudad Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in the Mexico. Children are the most affected in this area too. This video talks about how children are "orphaned" by violence and drugs and others are recruited by cartels. The women that was interviewed has lost 4 of her children in 5 years due to this drug war and violence. All of this violence has hurt a generation says the priest in one of the churches. He also says that the cartels pray on the poor kids. There was an 8 year old that was forced to deliver drugs and other kids that were given guns to be assassins. At first the priest was getting federal money to pay for programs to help kids in the city but the money was frozen so he couldn't keep up. This is like the book The Devil's Highway: people traveled the road in hopes of better things for their children. In the book the motives for leaving was to make money for their family and children. They knew that the road was dangerous but they were so determined to get out of the living state they were in.
In this video it talks about the corruption of government and police. There has been a drug war since 2007 which caused the death of about 160,000 people. In Mexico there are so many gangs that are connected and protected by officials. Mexico has been corrupt since the foundation. In the video it explains how judges are regularly bribed by crime groups and as a result it leads to less convictions and lighter sentencing. Mexican citizens consider the police the most corrupted in the country. There have been many police officers accused of working with cartels. This shows that there's not much hope for Mexican citizens to get protection from their government. This video is exactly the reason the characters in the book, The Devil's Highway, decided to leave. Their government was corrupt and they were barely getting paid.
This video talks about how Mexico has a lot of drug cartels that put people in danger. This made it the second deadliest country in 2016. In the video there are young men that are interviewed about their experiences in the cartels. Basically each of them talked about how young you can be to get into one. They explain how it doesn't matter who you are, where you are from, or how old you are, someone will recruit you to their cartel. They also talked about what they have done or what the people in the cartel make you do. In the video a 16 year old said sometimes they make you kill someone, sometimes they make you beat up someone and sometimes they make you stab someone. And he has shot about 5 people. These cartels recruit kids for life and they live in constant fear of dying. Another boy, 17 years old said that he wanted to get out but he knows that if they need him, he has to go back. This video is goes along with my book because it shows whats going on in Mexico. This is a reason people leave to go to America. Their society is messed up and dangerous and most of the time they can't find help for a way out. So people try to get away from that the closest way possible. just like in my book, because the government was so corrupt.
