Welcome to Issue 03 of The Dog Tales, a biweekly email from Dogs I Meet full of inspirational dog tales from around the world.
Every two weeks I will be sharing my favorite dog stories from around the world and tales from some of the dogs I meet and photograph each day. I hope you enjoy them.
Be sure to read the latest Dogs I Meet Rescue Mission about 12 Saint Bernard puppies who I photographed to help find them homes after the pregnant mom was brought into the rescue.
Dogs I Meet is a big supporter of Pawfect Life Rescue and the amazing work they do in saving and finding homes for countless dogs. Jackie, the 11-year-old Labrador retriever mix who won the Best in Senior group, took home the top prize at the first 2018 American Rescue Dog Show. The senior dog was at death’s door just a year ago after she was dropped off at a kill shelter by her previous family and was on the euthanasia list.
We all deserve a bit of comfort as we get older and thanks to this dog mom, Joannie gets to enjoy the sunshine in a very special bed. Joanie loves is lying outside in the sun, so her mom placed Joanie’s dog bed on the sunniest spot in the yard. Then she put Joanie’s doggy coat on, and wrapped her up with extra blankets and a fluffy comforter. Joanie loves it.
Dog Mountain and the Dog Chapel in St. Johnsbury, Vt., is an open dog park and dog chapel where dogs can connect with nature and enjoy spending time outside with their owners. It truly is heaven on earth for dogs! Artist Steven Huneck built the chapel to commemorate, remember and celebrate our canine best friends.
This little scrap was found wandering the streets of Croatia and it was hard to believe he was actually a dog. He was taken in by a rescue and named Frodo. They set to work to rid him of the fleas and cure his mange and helped to find him a family of his own. This is one of the most extreme makeovers we've ever seen!
Comedian Tom Mabe turned up to the Kentucky Humane Society to offer a donation. The staff definitely weren't expecting what happened next! As well as loads of beds, toys and food each dog was given a makeover to increase their chances of being adopted. Then they were treated to their best day ever - wait until you see them with 2000 tennis balls!
