In this novel an African American female travels back in time repeatedtly and she doesn't know why however there is this little boy that is there each time who she saves. The boy is caucasian and so is his father the boy fears his father. In the novel there is a lot of femininity vs. masculine and character vs. character conflict in it. For example in the novel "then he grabbed me by my shoulders and held me tightly". This shows the force men use on women and how they just treat them however they want and this also had to do with race? ethnicity. This also goes back to when Black women slaves would watch after the master's kid so each time she goes back in time she must save the kid and each time the man becomes more and more dangerous and more sexist. At this point in the book it's all about survival and living throught he past.
