The Great Sandy Desert Bibliography - Stjepan Majstorovic

This bibliography has a list of three sites that will help inform whom that would like to know about the threats, population and overall climate conditions.

Human Activity Threats

Human Activity Threats

I have chosen this source as a part of my bibliography as I know the reliability of it. It includes a lot of important information that is useful for deserts as a whole. This isn't directly aimed towards The Great Sandy, but being a desert, these threats do correlate quiet heavily towards it. Some of threats include military activities and off-road vehicles causing lasting damage to the fragile desert cover. Another serious concern is the grazing pressure on the desert is the most extensive agent of land degradation. Nuclear waste may also be dumped in deserts, which have also been used as nuclear testing grounds. These threats are some of the most serious out a lot more that are quite small compared to the ones already listed. The human activity threats can be prevented but there is nothing currently being done to help prevent it. With us humans being the cause of some of the leading threats, it's pretty pathetic that we can't make a change for the better of the deserts as a whole.

Population & Wildlife

Population & Wildlife

I have chosen this site as a part of my bibliography as I believe it is fairly reliable. This site is informative as it revolves around a lot of useful information such as our deserts population and wildlife. Wild life, some of which are now rare, and occur nowhere else. Some of these include the Dwarf bearded Dragon, Scarlet-Chested Parrot, Flying Fox, Dingo, Red Kangaroo. With a lack of food found in the deserts, a lot of these animals have a hard time finding natural food. The Great Sandy Desert's population consists primarily of a small number of Aboriginals, who were among those who arrived in Australia by sea thousands of years ago. The wildlife found on the deserts are in a lot of danger due to being a scarce amount of resources for them to live off of.

Deserts Threats

Deserts Threats

This source that I have chosen to add to the informative bibliography includes viable information on the threats that deserts experience nowadays. Global warming is the main effect, causing incidence of drought, which dries up water holes. With some human activity also comes some serious threats for the desert. Things such as chopping down trees for fire wood and the grazing of animals are also serious. Some solutions that have been talked about to help resolve another large issue is that they could possibly use the existing water more efficiently. This particular source is very reliable as it is used all around the world respectively, making it a very trusted source used by professionals. Most of these threats however have not been suggested to be helped and or fixed any time soon. This is obviously quite scary for the future of our deserts and the things found on them.
