The History of the Philippines

During WW ll the Philippines were invaded by japan and over a million people died. The Philippines was claimed in the name of Spain in 1521 by Ferdinand Magellan , a Portuguese explorer sailing for Spain , who named this island after King Phillip ll of Spain. they were called Las Filipinos. by the 1830's Spanish culture and thought had penetrated into Filipino culture to extent that the Filipino people began thinking about liberation from Spain. The government of Spain developed Filipino agriculture to the point that it was self-sufficient.



after some attempts at independence, and an equal number of introits on the part of Spain , Filipino nationalists began to speak out. one of the most famous of the time was Jose Rizal .He studied medicine at the University of Santos Thomas in the Philippines and the University of Madrid. Rizal wrote two important novels that portrayed the abuse of Spanish rule. Although the books were banned, they were smuggled into the Philippines and widely read.

Traditions

People in the Philippines have lots of different traditions but one that they all have in common is doing karaoke. For those of you who don't know what karaoke is karaoke is a fun singing activity that lots of Filipino people play. all you do is pick a song then try to sing it, you might sound weird but its how to be confidant around your friends and you can just relax.

Food

the food in the Philippines are very good lots of people are missing out. one of the most popular meals in the Philippines is chicken adobo. chicken adobo is grilled chicken with soup and pepper on it. the second most popular food in the Philippines is Balut. Balut is a fertilized developing egg that is boiled and eaten from the shell. personally i don't really like balut but its pretty popular so you might like it.

Government

The government has three independent branches the legislative branch, the executive branch , and the judicial branch. Legislative power is vested in two-chamber Congress of the Philippines-- the sante is in the upper chamber and the upper chamber has the House of representatives.
