When wolves started to go extinct, the deer population rose drastically. The deer started to eat all of the vegetation, making the soil loose, and water washing away. The streams started to widen and whole forests were being destroyed. When wolves made a comeback, the deer population fell. The rivers also changed as well. The vegetation stabilized the dirt, making the steams and rivers less wide. The forests started to grow back, making the birds, bears, and other animals come back.
A Watershed is a land area that channels rainfall and snow melt to creeks, streams, and rivers, and eventually to outflow points such as reservoirs, bays, and the ocean. A watershed can be anything that holds water in an area and sends that water to another body of water. The largest watershed in the United States is the Mississippi River Watershed, which drains 1.15 million square miles. Not all watersheds drain to the ocean, when the soil is dry and it rains, the water stays in the soil.
In June 12, 2012, Flint started to look for cheaper water sources, but the Detroit Water and Sewage Department said that Flint could build their own pipeline to connect to the Karegnondi Water Authority. One year later however, Flint canceled the connection. Flint then looked towards the Flint river for water. They did not treat the water to ensure that there was no corrosion in the pipes, but did a ¨wait and see.¨ The pipes were not changed when they switched to the Flint river. Water corroded the pipes, putting lead in the water, causing water poisoning. Flint responded by adding chlorine into the water to kill the bacteria. The chlorine however, eroded the machines, adding more lead. Flint tested the water and found high levels of lead in the water. The water line was cut, saying the water was toxic. The water pipes switched to the Detroit water supply.
