Stoicism is the practice of Joy and compassion. It has been around for more than 2000 years and teaches you how to see things in a different way. This article talks about how stoicism isn't almost like a belief and should always be practiced. This article is important because it tells you about stoicism and how it can improve your life.
Today in the English language we use the ABC's to write, which in some ways is very similar to the Latin language where they only had 22 letters. In Latin, they used fewer words to say a whole sentence like amicus meaning "The friend was encouraging." or LEG meaning legion as in the army. The reason I chose this article was that it gave me helpful translations of Latin words. This way I could see how their language influenced the English language today.
In ancient Rome, they spoke using a language called Latin and greek. In the Italian peninsula, these languages were most commonly spoken. In the western parts of Rome Celtic languages were mostly spoken but later on, were taken over by Latin. This article was extremely helpful for me. It didn't only talk about Latin but it told me all the other languages they spoke and how they used to write. The reason I chose this article was that when I was reading through it, it was very descriptive and told me lots of facts.
The Romans had a different way of presenting their laws. Today we have the constitution which is pretty similar to their system. They used demonstrated their laws by using a system called the 12 tables. The 12 tables have 12 different rules that all citizens must follow. I chose this article because I wanted one that told me all the information I needed. This link helped me by showing me exactly what the laws were for the Romans so I could then later look at the what our laws are today like the constitution and then look at what the Romans laws were and see how they influenced the way we formatted the constitution.
Today the way we engineer is majorly influenced from the way the Romans engineered. To build bridges we usually use concrete and steel. The Romans would use stone held together with iron clamps, so the Romans had a big impact on the way we do things today. The reason I chose this article talks about the golden gate bridge and how they made it. I selected this article because I thought it would give me all the information I needed to see how the Romans influenced the way we build today.
Roman architecture played a big part in modern architecture. Like The White House Which just like Roman architecture has doric columns on the front and designs on the walls. This article gave me tons of information about the white house so I could then see the similarities between Roman architecture and modern day architecture.
There are many different ways that murals have influenced murals today. This article shows you 49 murals in the San Francisco. There was one that I thought had a lot of the Roman Art characteristics. Roman murals tend to have working people or soldiers in them. Carnaval by Daniel Galvez is a great example because it has lots of people doing everyday actions. This article was very helpful and gave me not just examples of murals but also the origin of who made them and when they were made.
Roman art has influenced modern art in many ways today, For example the statue of liberty made in 1875 by frederick augutes Bartoli. The statue of liberty has many examples of roman art like, some may not know this, but the women holding the torch is the Roman goddess for art and light (Minerva). One of the reasons I chose this link was that it helped me find lots of ways Roman art has influenced us today. It gave me great demonstrations of Roman art so I could later compare Roman Art to Modern art.
