In every argument, in every situation, there will be opponents and skeptics, those who wont believe and will combat you with their own facts and arguments. Climate change is a major controversial issue in America's government, and with so many skeptics involved in the legislative process, it is very difficult to have get any bills to pass so that We, as a nation, can do anything to stop Climate Change's progression, especially if all 3 branches of our government are run by skeptics. With so much difficulty in passing Climate Change legislation, those who support the cause rely on people like Senator Sheldon, people who advocate for the cause. In politics, as much as a Senator or Representative would like to speak up for their own beliefs, they are tied down by their constituents. If a Senator agrees on a subject in which their own political platform is against, they risk not being elected for another term, their jobs are on the line, and as much as these political figureheads may want to help, their hands are tied behind their backs. Weather (thats a joke) or not this issue is acted on is ultimately up to The People.
As great as people may think their political representatives may be, Congress is ultimately run by money. In a case called Citizens United, the Supreme Court established that special interest groups could spend unlimited amounts of money in politics. These groups took advantage of that and, in support of the Elitist Theory, large fossil fuel corporations took advantage of this and promised large sums of money to those who will side with them and vote against bills that limit those corporations. Republican Senators that used to support Climate Change legislation instantly changed sides, no longer caring for the issue anymore, but only for the money. The grasp that the large corporations have over Congress is overbearing, and with their power (or money), they can easily control weather (thats the same joke again) or not Climate Change bills will be passed or not. After all, if the bill doesn't get past the Senate, how will it get to the President? And even if miraculously did, the President will without a doubt veto it. At this point, there is no way Earth can be saved.
With climate change being such a controversial matter in the government, the biggest senate climate change figurehead needs ways to prove how CO2 coming from our fossil fuel emissions is effecting the world around us. Experiments such as this one, no matter how comical, are necessary to prove the effects of climate change in order to have support in passing some sort of bill that can help limit the effects of climate change. With the introduction of such large quantities of CO2 being introduced to the environment, Earths natural shield keeping the heat from burning everyone the planet is deteriorating. 90% of all that heat is being absorbed by the ocean. This results in coral and plant life in being bleached and marine life such as Flounder quickly dying off. Not only is this effecting sea life, but its effecting humans as well. As heat levels rise, so does water levels; in some areas, up to 10 inches of water has risen in a matter of a few decades. It's these points that advocates of climate change must make in order to influence the Senate, and its small experiments like these that make what said advocates say more credible. Once enough support has been generated, then it will be much easier to get legislation for climate change to pass, leaving it up to the President to decide weather (I made the joke again) or not the Earth is worth saving.
