The reason why I chose to link this artifact to a passage on Harvey Spectre is that he is my favorite character in the entire show because he is certainly different from all the other characters. For example, he is very strict and committed to his work, which is the reason why he is the best lawyer in their entire law firm. This show was first introduced to me by my friend who watches many TV shows. After watching a couple episodes, I actually started to become more engaged with the show because of how serious it had developed into. The reason this fits in with my curation is that this is my favorite TV show that I have watched this year and I will remember this show for the rest of my life because it is just amazing. I picked this show to be part of my curation because it really taught me about how business is in the real world, like how there is a lot of competition and that it is not easy. Also, this show left me on a lot of cliffhangers. I'm not just talking about the last episode of every season, it was every single episode. They did that by leaving every episode with a dramatic scene or new information, and that made me want to jump right into the next episode. This TV series also made good use of my free time because every night before I go to bed, I always plan out my time so that I have an hour or two to chill. I used that time to watch two full episodes of Suits because each episode is 45 minutes long. The thing I like about this show is how each actor/actress portrays his/her character. For example, Donna(the secretary) is always right about everything and knows what to do in every situation, and the actress that plays her does a phenomenal job of showing that. Another thing I like about this show is that it is not only about the law all the time and that every show has a different situation that the law firm needs to get through. It also goes back to some personal moments of the character's lives that reveal a lot about them and also affects the plot of the show. Overall, this show was a big part of my freshman year and I can't wait for season seven to come out.
Rather than traveling all the time, my parents preferred to try something different. My mom came up with the suggestion that we should invite some of our dearest friends and organize a cruise. The reason it was not only us was that cruises tend to get quite uninteresting if there is no additional company. This is a European cruise, so it leaves from Denmark. My family and friends all confirmed that they could go, and we finalized the cruise. I was so eager because I will look at a variety of places that I have never been too and I will get to relax on the cruise. The ports this cruise stopped at Copenhagen, Denmark l Oslo, Norway | Berlin, Germany | Tallinn, Estonia | St. Petersburg, Russia | Helsinki, Finland | Stockholm, Sweden. For the first few of days I was just examining the cruise and finding stuff to do. I played a lot of sports on the upper deck with my family friend and at night I went to the teen club. The teen club is a club where they have a collection of activities for kids such as table tennis, air hockey, and board games. Something I won't forget from the cruise would be meeting with all these wonderful kids and just hanging out with them. We all had many things in common, and by the end of the cruise we all came about as rather good friends. Also, all the tours we took at all the ports is something that I will surely remember because they were beautiful. Like learning about all these different destinations really interested me. My favorite port would have to be St.Petersburg, Russia because my parents rented out a full out bus and it brought us around and showed us many remarkable buildings. The buildings absolutely magnificent because most of them were made out of real gold and it just intrigued me. The cruise would have become boring, but all the activities kept me occupied. I will especially never forget the game shows that they had on board because the prizes were big and it was extremely competitive. There was this one host that was so funny because he did impressions of people and made jokes. So, every time I went to a show, I was looking for him because he is a phenomenal host. My favorite game would have to be BINGO because even my parents showed up for that, and they had these six pad boxes so we would have a higher possibility of winning. This fits in with my curation because this was one of my most memorable cruises with many highlights that will not be forgotten. This was picked because I spent an abundance of time with my family and I got to experience different places around the world.
Ever since I was 5 years old I have been practicing Tae Kwon Do with my sister. The reason I did it was because it seemed interesting and a lot of fun. However, after a couple of belts, the classes started becoming more profound and difficult because we were beginning training into earning the coveted black belt. My sister and I received our 1st-degree black belt 2-3 years ago, and at that moment I felt extremely proud of myself for making it this far and never giving up. After another 2 years of hard work and dedication to obtain that 2nd degree, we eventually got it. At that point, my sister quit because she preferred to do gymnastics and there was not enough spare time to do Taekwondo and gymnastics. In the middle of my freshman year, my Taekwondo school recommended students for the title role of assistant instructor, and thankfully I was one of them. The requirements implied that I have to be 13 years and older and also be a black belt. So, I replied, “yes” to an email to be an assistant instructor because I get community service hours which is required for me to graduate and I enjoy working with people. This was one of my greatest accomplishments all year because acknowledging that my Tae Kwon Do school wants me to be an assistant instructor made me feel that so many years of practicing Tae Kwon Do finally benefited me. I will never lose sight of the expression on my parents face when I announced to them that I was an assistant instructor because their look indicated that they were proud of me and it was just a wonderful moment. Also, the ceremony where they give a certificate to all assistant instructors, and it was just an amazing feeling when my master handed me my certificate and congratulated me. The hard work, dedication, and perseverance that led me to where I remain today. This fits in with my curation because this is one of my greatest highlights of my freshman year and unforgettable. This topic was selected because becoming assistant instructor was a big step as a Taekwondo student, and this was the year where all my hard work finally came through for me. Now I attend Tae Kwon Do 2 times a week and volunteer for 2 hours as an assistant instructor. Hopefully next year, I will be able to reach the position of Junior Master, which is my next goal for Tae Kwon Do.
I have played volleyball ever since 7th grade, and I enjoy it. The reason this fits in with my curation is that this was my first ever high school sport and it was a very memorable season. Our overall record was 2-13, however, although the record may not be good, this was the best season out of 7th and 8th grade. In 7th grade, our record was 0-11 because we were just getting used to playing the sport and learning the key essentials such as bumping and setting. Our team did not really take volleyball seriously in 7th grade. In 8th grade, I decided that I want to impress the coach and try my best because he is also a coach for the varsity team in high school. Our record was 1-11 because maybe we did not have enough practice and we were not playing like a team. Now the reason I chose this volleyball year was that it was the most fun year because our team also had some 10th graders since JV combines 9th and 10th graders. The bus rides to our game were the most fun because there were people blasting their music and basically doing whatever they want because our coach did not really care. Something that I will never forget, would be our team chemistry. In the past years we were just getting to know each other, and since the same people from every year tryout and make the team, I have learned how they play. Now, in our JV season, we are all good friends with each other and encourage teammates to get back up when someone makes a mistake. Not only did we have great moments, but I learned many new things about volleyball. I learned all the rotations for each position and I also know almost every single rule about volleyball. I have also become a better player than I was before because of our coach, he taught me some new tricks that I applied in games to score us some points. The last memorable moment of my 9th grade volleyball year would be our end of the season party. Although we did not have a great season, we still wanted to celebrate our first year of Herrick's high school volleyball. So we all planned to go to Applebee's and just have a good time while enjoying some food together. In the end, it was an awesome season with a lot of great moments. Hopefully, next year will be even better and with many more moments yet to come.
At many points this year I was stressed out, usually towards the end. Whenever I am stressed out I struggle to find something to take my mind off all my work for about 10 minutes, so I could have some space to calm down and get my head straight. I tried just taking a brief nap or just taking a walk, but none of those worked. So, as I was studying, my sister blasted her music and for some reason, it actually calmed me down for a little. The reason why is that if I listen to a song I absolutely love, then it completely distracts me from any of my work and I concentrate more on the song. Since then I have been taking breaks in my work just to listen to music and have my mind cleared if I am stressed. I'm the One by DJ Khaled is one of the rare songs that have gotten me through this year. I listen to it in school between classes, at home, and at parties. The major role of this song is Justin Beiber, and the other rappers have their individual lines throughout the song. My favorite part would have to be Chance The Rapper's part because he sings it so well and just gets me into a hype mood. I have listened to this song so many times that I have memorized almost every single word because when I get attached to a song; I listen to it over and over. The things I love about this song is that there is a variety of people and not just one person singing the song. In my opinion, when there is one person singing a song, I feel that it is bland but still a good song. However, songs that have multiple people, I like more because I can hear different voices and not just one. Also, this is like a hype song or a song that people could dance to because it slows down at Justin Bieber's part and speeds up when one of the rapper's sing. So, this song not only helped me relieve my stress but also made me feel good towards the end of the year. Even though finals are coming up when I listen to the song it makes me feel like I am in summer already and I could do whatever I want. This fits in with my curation because this song has helped me throughout the year and is one of my memorable songs of this year. In the future when I look back to this song, it will remind me of my freshman year.
Out of all the vacations, I went on this year such as India, Dubai, Bangkok, and Vermont. I would say that Bangkok is the most memorable vacation I have been on this year. The reason for that is because I have never been to Thailand before so it was a different experience for me. I got to look at temples, visit the popular shopping markets, and try different Thai restaurants. Even though we were occupied during the day, the nights we were even busier. Almost every night we managed to go out for dinner at a place my dad's friend had recommended, and after that, they would drop us back to the hotel rooms and the parents would generally go out to out until 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. One thing that I will definitely remember was carrying a snake in my hand. We originally went there for a snake show because it is one of the most famous tourist attractions, and my parents signed me up to hold a snake. At first, I was hesitant because I was not certain it was secure, and my fear of snakes just made me want to get hold of the sheet and cross my name off. But after watching other people hold the snake, I realized that this was my one and only opportunity to have a real life snake in my hand, so I disregarded all the negativeness and went for it. Honestly, it was one of the most exhilarating moments of my entire life because it is something that I never thought I would do. Another memorable moment would be visiting the floating market because it is the most famous shopping centers in Bangkok. Although we did not buy much, just witnessing what Bankok life and culture was enough for me. I purchased a modern wooden bike as a souvenir so that every time I gaze back at it; I remember that I have been to Bangkok. This fits in with my curation because it was a great family trip that had many memorable moments that I hope to revisit some other time later in my life.
This fits in with my curation of the year because this is my first time going to Metlife Stadium to watch football a game. Watching the game was a remarkable experience for me because football has always been my passion. I began watching football when I was nine years old because my dad used to take me to all his Super Bowl parties and ever since then I have built up an interest in football. The following year my dad introduced me to his favorite team which is the New York Jets. Since I did not understand too much about football at the time, I began rooting for the Jets. Rooting for the Jets meant that I cannot cheer for the Giants because they are the alternative New York team or the New England Patriots because they are rival of the Jets. As years went on by, I started getting more engaged in football like watching every single game, not only the Jets, and watching the draft picks. I have always wished to experience what it was like to actually be in a stadium and witness the game. However, I never got the chance to since my dad was constantly traveling for work. So, my dad assured me that in 2016 he will make time to take me to a Jets a game, but it had to be on a weekend. So, my dad and I searched up home games for the Jets and we came across one on a day which he is not traveling. Being at the game was such a wonderful time for me cause not only did I just see a Jets game, but I also got to spend time with my dad. The game was just so much fun for me, there was constant cheering, chants, and the game was so close which made it really interesting. So, this game definitely was one of my most memorable moments of freshman year, and my passion for football made the game even better.
