(Inspired by a picture on Google Images) To impress others, be yourself. You are unique, and someone out there will see you as cool. You don't need to change anything about yourself or put your life in danger.
This musical takes place in high school, and peer pressure, of course, isn't far behind. I am obsessed with this musical and Layne gave me the idea to do Candy Store. In this song, Veronica is forced into writing a fake love note for her best friend to come to a party tonight, in which when she confronts the guy the love note is from, Ram, she gets embarrassed in front of everyone. To get Veronica to do it, they say that she can be one of them, the top dogs of the school, and if she doesn't, she'll go back to being a regular High School Student. I know I've already put a song, but I thought with this song, it could summarize the musical a bit since there's a lot of moments of peer pressure. (Yes and there's a movie too.)
Constantly, with peer pressure, the most common things people get peer pressured into is Smoking, Drugs, and Alcohol. To be cool, one of the cool kids and school. But you don't need to do such things to be cool. Be you.
Peer Pressure also doesn't have to be about trying to be popular. But Peer Pressure can lead to death, especially in Vinny's situation, he could've died. Luckily he didn't die and he lived for another day. But this poor girl was driven to jump off a cliff because everyone wanted her to reveal her face. And when she did, they were terrified of her. While the tone of the song is more dark, it can provide a sense of what people go through, trying to fit in or do things that others want to get "cool". Practically risking tons of things to fit in and fly with the 'eagles'.
Peer Pressure is not the best, especially in this case. The only reason Vinny jumped down is because his friends were pressuring him to do so, when a kid had died there a few weeks before. Is it worth it to risk death to become cool to friends or popular people?
