The dependent variable is the factor that changes as a result, often measured.
The independent variable in an experiment is the factor the scientist changes on purpose.
Quantitative data is data that has numbers in it. Quantitative data can include weight, height, width, inches, etc.
Qualitative data is basically an observation. Qualitative data is data that says color, smell, taste, etc.
An observation is something you notice using your five senses.
An inference is an idea formed from facts or evidence. Based off of an observation.
The last step to the scientific method is to draw conclusions. A conclusion is a summary of your results. Also you have to include data to prove or disprove your hypothesis.
The fourth step to the scientific method is to see what your results are. You want to collect/analyze your data from your experiment. You wan to collect data fro your conclusion and to see if your hypothesis was correct.
The third step to the scientific method is to experiment. You need to experiment to test your observation.
The second step of the scientific method is make a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an if than statement. Your hypothesis should include what you think will happen in the experiment. It is okay if you get your hypothesis wrong, but you can not go back and change it.
