The scientific method is a series of steps that answers a testable question. The five steps are as follows Question or Problem, Hypothesis, Experiment, Collect Data, Conclude.
During this step you create a testable question based on a problem or an idea you have. You question should be in an if than statement.
During the second step you will make an educated guess about what you think the outcome of the experiment will be. One example of a hypothesis would be "I think if you wrap your sailboat in foil it will make it sink."
Now you test to see if your hypothesis was correct. Conduct an experiment. You may do the experiment multiple times.
During this step you will collect your data. You will compare the trials. You may make a graph or chart.
During the last step of the scientific method you reflect on the data that you collected and come up with a final statement or conclusion.
