When you look at a magazine you don't immeaditly think about all the color, designs and words that go on it. You just see a plain old magazine. Well, in the 50s when magazines weren't as popular, it would be a lot more expensive to have color on magazines, so a lot of them were just black and white. But his one does have color, a reason for that may be because since Marilyn Monroe is on it, they may have found it important to have color. And notice that letters and the words on it. There are only little section with some words in the corners. In modern day magazines, there would be words all over the cover.
With the modern technology we have today, cars will soon be self-driven. But back in the 50s, cars were just plain old fashion. This is a picture of a white mustang. And they were very popular. Mostly because they wanted to look cool, but also because they were in style. There were many different types of cars in the 50s, but I chose a picture of this one in particular because the mustang is the car that is most well known to the 50s. For me at least.
This is an ad in a newspaper, advertising Mueller's Sports Store. Specifically basketball shoes. Ads were and still are very common. It's just that back then, ads were seen on newspapers sand not on TV. In the 1950's, ads were a very important way of showing clothes, schools items etc. And comparing this ad to any ad from the present time, there are lots of differences. For example, the color. Back then everything was black and white, but now everything is in color.
Different ads represent different stores, products or companies. But some are just stereotypical, like this one. Back in the 50s, women were seen in a certain way. To do all the household jobs, being a stay at home mom. To take care of the kids, wash clothes, and clean the house. SO this ad is clearly showing that product, but also how it should be used. Now a days, this ad would not be acceptable in our society. Especially where we live. This ad does prove that women have the power to clean, and in some cases this is true but not all.
Each specific year in the 50s has a few important facts about that year which makes it important. For example, during the year of 1952, car seat belts were invented, the Polio vaccine was created, Princess Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth at age 25, a person named Jacques Cousteau discovers an ancient Greek ship and The great London Fog happened in 1952. SO it doesn't only tell facts about the US in the 50s, but the important events that are happening around the world.
I feel like all these people represent the 50s well and the fact that it's a sort of collage of them together is saying that there all important. Which also represents what the site is giving the reader. Different aspects of the 50s. Important dates, times, what different costs were and how every year in the 50s was important. And round the world statuses during the year.
