THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE FIRST! To see where your level of understanding is on theme you need to first take this pre-test.
The next 8 links are things such as organizers, a video on how to identify theme, and 3 videos for practicing identifying theme.
Now that you have taken the pre-test, you want to watch this video to help make sure you have a solid understanding of theme.
Before you do the organizers and read the stories below, you NEED to read this slideshow. You might think you know the difference between them and central/main idea, but you need to make sure you reall truly have a solid understanding of the difference.
Here is a document that is a resource for you. They called this document "Common themes found in books" . They should have called this document "Common Big Ideas Found In Books". Never mind the name, this a resource to help you identify some big idea words.
This is the story you will use to complete the following organizers. You can read EITHER the short version OR the long version. You do not have to read both. You also DO NOT have to do the activities.
Whenever you are identifying the theme in a story you need to have a big ide word. In order to help you find the big idea, print out this organizer and use it with the story the three little pigs. (The text for "Three Little Pigs" is linked in the box before this one)
Now that you have read the three little pigs, AND completed the organizer for finding the big idea, you will Print out this PDF organizer, and fill it out. Make sure when you are filling it out, you are using your resources. Always make sure you are reffering back to your "What's The Big Idea" organizer, and your "Three Little Pigs text".
You have now seen a slideshow, gotten a few organizers and a sheet with common big idea words. Now I have 3 videos. You may do all 3, you can just do 1 or 2. Whatever you need. Now all you do is listen to the clip of the song that is played. Then when it says what was the theme, pause the video and take as long as you need to figure out the theme. They don't tell you the right answer.
Using lyrics of three songs to identify theme.
This uses three song clips to help students identify the theme that is being shared.
This is the same quizzizz that you took at the beginning of the lesson. However, this time you will actually get a grade put in for your score on this quizzizz.
