Martin Luther King Jr. is the first black human in america to fight for equal rights. He won the Nobel piace prise. Martin Luther King became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was, by this time, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation.
Nelson Mandela was the first black presidant of South Africa and won the nobel pice prise after the protests aginst discrimination in South Africa. He actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s, Mandela joined the African National Congress.
Gandhi was one of the main people who helped India win it's independence. He first wanted to become a lawyer but then realized that India, his home country, was under British rule and the people were being treated very poorly. His response was to lead non violent protests. He was arrested many times for breaking laws like people of India are not allowed to harvest their own salt, even though salt is something that people need in order to live. He also was the leader in all of the protests. He also wanted to fill up the jails so they could not be arrested.
