Guy Montag must learn weather to trust the government of himself. Guy is a fireman, however rather than putting out fires, he starts them. Guy lives in a society where the government controls what people see, think, and learn, and books are banned, due to people learning things the government does not want them to know. Guy however, has a secret stash of books, and must question what he thinks, versus what the government tells him to think. This book makes my Top 5 because it is a book that is very different from the rest. One of my favorite parts is the ending. While most people do not like it, it gets a very strong message across, about how could can't always get what you want. To be able to understand this book, you can't look at it as a book, but as reality. This is a theme that most books do not give, and this is the reason this book is a Bestseller. Bradbury, Ray. After an electromagnet pulse turns most teens into carnivorous beasts and kills all middle aged adults. Only a few teens, young children, and old residents are left to fight for their lives. Alex is one of the lucky few teens that was spared from turning into a cannibal. She must learn to live in this new society, fighting off wolves, and other teens, she must dig deep to survive, and fight hard. This book made my Top 5 because it had an extremely entertaining first half. It was a dystopian mixed with a mystery. While the society was crumbling, many questions had to be asked. While reading I had to break to speculate what happened and why it happened. It was extremely enjoyable to read. However the second half turned into the 2016 election, with people fighting and getting no where and got extremely boring. However the top half was more interesting than the bottom half was bad, which is why overall it is a good book rather than a bad one. Bick, Ilsa J. Ashes. New York: EgmontUSA, 2012. Print.
After angering Zues, the father of the gods. Apollo is turned into a mortal, with no magic abilities or immortal life. All alone and on his own, he must find out what he did and how to reverse the effects of what he has done. This makes my Top 5 because it is extremely different from the speech Jackson books I have read. Most books feature the demigod going around trying to slay an evil titan or god. This book is much different however, it features Appolo, and his journey to become a god again. It is a really good book to read if you like Rick Riordan books, but want a change. Riordan, Rick. Illuminae is a book that takes place in the future. When the human race has expanded. Kady, a girl who's home planet, Kerzena, has been destroyed, just board a ship called the Alexander. Seperated from her mom, Katie must learn how to survive on her own, when her death seems inevitable. This book makes my Top 5 because it features many different writing styles, from script, to journal, to paragraph format. It also has an extremely good story line, and you get to learn more about Katie and how she thinks. It is great to know how the main character thinks, and explains the desicions she makes. However the multiple formats can get confusing, and take away from the writing. Kaufman, Amie. Illuminae. N.p.: Turtleback, 2017. Print.
The 5th wave is a survivor of an invasion of the Others, an alien species that hates Earth due to greediness and gluttony. Throughout the book, Cassie must learn about the others in order to survive them, but she also must learn how much will power she has to keep surviving. This book is on my Top 5 due to the fact that it is a fun, faced pasted dystopian book. While most books are focused on the person surviving. this book focuses on Cassie running away from the others, however, has a storyline that is built well with multiple characters that have different personalities. Overall, it is an extreme good dystopian book, with a good storyline, not most dystopian books have. MLA Citation: Yancey, Rick. The 5th Wave. Farmington Hills, Mich: Cale/Cengage Learning, 2016.
