The rising cost of food prices has triggered concern among nine in 10 Canadians, according to a national survey.
"I think it's a trend we have been seeing in other research we have done that generally the cost of living is something that's increasingly concerning more and more Canadians across the country," said David Colleto, CEO of Abacus Data, which was commissioned by Food and Consumer Products of Canada to conduct the survey.
Statistics Canada says the price of fresh vegetables in May swelled 16.7 per cent, while food prices jumped 3.5 per cent from the same period last year.
Dollarama Inc said on Tuesday it would acquire a 50.1 per cent stake in Latin American value retailer Dollarcity, as the Canadian discount store operator looks to expand in the region.
