A. Women finally get to vote! This was VERY important to our nation because it took tons of time and tons of protesting for these women to finally gain enough respect to vote. B. This concept is significant because for a very long time, women weren't able to have a say on who their governor or president were going to be. It was only up to men. C. This event connects to our current days because there are still tons of women protesting, not only about voting, but for more women's rights. This event did change our nation, but the fight for rights aren't over yet!
A. The stock market crash of 1929 started the Great Depression. It affected the nation because everyone's business went bankrupt. This led to the workers not being payed. Everyone went broke for 10 years. B. It affects me because going bankrupt/poor is awful. It can ruin health greatly. I would never want to be in the situation where i have to fight for my life. C. This connects to current day because it can happen at any time, with any business. If the company doesn't make enough money, then they cant pay their employees what they deserve.
A. With the assassination of President William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, became the 26th and youngest President in the Nation’s history (1901-1909). He brought new excitement to America. Theodore Roosevelt was important because he led us deeper into world politics. regulated some of our railroads, added forests, gave the public more land, and helped with a conflict between Germany and France who wanted Morocco. B. Theodore impacts me because he set an amazing example for the people of the United States to follow. C. Theodore won a Nobel Peace prize. In fact, he was the first American to receive it. Without his accomplishments, America would not be the same. We may not have the land, regulated railroads, or the amount of forests we have today, if it weren't for him. He changed our nation for the better.
A. Over 100 years ago, a girl scout movement was formed. It changed our nation because it helped tons of people who cant afford many things. So many more food drives and fundraisers came to be. B. It impacts me because when I was younger, I was a girl scout for a few years. Not only did I know that I was helping people, but it was also a great way for me to meet new people, and have a lot of fun. C. It greatly affects people today because girl scouts is still a movement. Young girls are coming together to help and support others.
A. On March 3, 1931 The Star Spangled Banner was adopted as the country's National Anthem. Although many people already viewed the Star Spangle Banner as the US Anthem, it was signed by congress on this day and made official. It is important to the nation because it made them more united with this anthem. B. This event is important to me because it gives me a connection to other people in my country and makes me feel united when we sing it. C. It connects to present day because it is still sung at sports games.
A. The pure food and drug act prevented the manufacture on misbranded/poisonous food, drugs, medicines, and liquors. This legislation was passed in 1906. It helps our nation because it saves tons of people from dying or getting sick. B. This is very important because it saves a bunch of lives as well as shutting down some companies using these things required to survive. C. It connects to present day because a bunch of people get poisoned by food, and their lives remain at risk, if nothing is done about it.
A. The Sinking of The Titanic impacted our nation because of the significant amount of lives that were lost. After this tragic event occurred, many precautions were set, to prevent this from happening a second time. B. This event is very important to me because I've been on a few cruises and wouldn't want to end my life on one. Its a very sad situation, and people shouldn't have to experience it. C. The titanic connects to present day, because they made a few movies about it, that are popular to this day. There is also a museum that you can visit to remember the lives that were lost on the ship.
A. The first published crossword appeared in the New York World Newspaper. It gave Americans a challenging, yet fun activity to do when reading the newspaper. B. This is important to me because my mom and my grandma do crossword puzzles, however, I think they are boring. C. This connects to the present day because now there are books and game applications on computers and phones filled with crosswords for people to challenge themselves.
A. Clarence Saunders founded the Piggly Wiggly grocery stores. He opened the first one in 1916 in Memphis, Tennessee. By 1923, ha had 1300 stores. It affected our nation by changing the way people shopped. Prior to this store, people were not able to hand pick what they were shopping for. B. This is important to me because I like to shop and can't imagine not being able to pick out what I want. C. It affects today because people are still going to grocery stores and choosing what they like to buy. Amazingly, there are still 530 Piggly Wiggly grocery stores around today.
A. The Wizard of Oz gave us a look at an amazing movie created during the late 1930's. It was enjoyed by all, and was around the time of the Gold Standard act. Inside the movie are hidden features that people have believed related to what was happening in the real world at the time. B. This movie is very meaningful to me because i watched it when i was younger, and really enjoyed it. We also learned a little bit about it, which made me look at the movie in a whole new way. C. It connects to present day because people who are younger still watch it to this day. This movie changed the way people have viewed the situations occurring in America
