The Nazi death camps witnessed crimes of unprecedented horror, just like how in the story, "Night" Elie witnesses, dead, and brutality, and starvation. In one part of the book, Germans threw bread in the train and people literally fought to the death for it, this is an example of starvation in the book.
Oral history testimonies by Jewish survivors of the Holocaust. One person told how if you were old, or ill, you were sent to the other side. In the book Night, they did a selection every so often and the old or weak would be selected, and killed. One time, Elie thought his father was being selected, and his father gave all of his inheritance to Elie.
Voices of the Holocaust is a collection of interviews with Holocaust survivors and other displaced persons conducted by Dr. David P. Boder in Europe in 1946. There was a boy in one of her interviews who got separated from his mother and sister, just like Elie did when they arrived at the first concentration camp.
