This source shows Stalin sitting on top of countless corpses while laughing not caring less about them. The pile of bodies are those who were killed during purges. This shows how everyone was living in fear as slightest indication of anti-Stalin sentiments would warrant an arrest and if stood out for the wrong reasons could be killed instantly. By the end of the Great Terror, seven million people were killed. I chose this source as it shows how evil Stalin was as he gained power not by earning it, bu getting it by instilling fear. This shows that Stalin's rule over the USSR was not beneficiary as many suffered.
This source shows a woman carrying a huge stack of hay which was only fit for a man o do. This shows that now instead of taking care of children and family with the only role as a housewife, after Stalin's new policy, women now were expected to join the workforce too. To help them, childcare centres were built. However they were little to no use as they were not properly maintained. I chose this source as it shows how lives of women were made harder due to Stalin's policy. This shows that Stalin's rule over USSR was not beneficiary .
This source shows a picture of 5 starving children during 1932. As the state controlled the use of agricultural produce from the collective farms, the farms were owned by them and farmers could not keep any produce for themselves. Thus during the Great famine, the produce were not distributed to help the starving people and instead sold overseas to raise funds for more industrial machinery and development. I chose this source as it shows how evil Stalin's decisions were and how he chose money instead of helping the people. This source shows that Stalin's rule over the USSR was not beneficial as many suffered.
This source shows the Soviet Union during rapid industrialization. There are many factories and machinery built. This would definitely help the farmers as the factories would be able to produce equipment for farming such as tractors. This would benefit the farmers as less of them would be needed to work at the farm and instead could work as factory workers. There is also a man seen to be digging for coal. This shows that the development of heavy industries such as coal has been placed. I chose this source as this perfectly shows the outcome of USSR due to rapid industrialization. This source shows that Stalin's rule was beneficiary for USSR as it helped boost its economy.
This cartoon shows a huge farm with many tractors collecting huge stacks of harvest. There are words stating, 'Day of harvest and collectivization." This shows that through collectivization, more harvest can be yield from a larger farm with machinery rather than a smaller farm. I chose this source as it perfectly shows what Stalin believed collectivization would do to help the economy which was that merging smaller individual farms of the Soviet Union into larger collective farms would allow larger units of land to be farmed more efficiently through the use of machinery. This source shows that Stalin's rule was beneficiary for USSR as it helped boost the economy as more goods could be harvested.
This video shows how obsessed Stalin was over the 5 year plan as he believed that Russia was much behind in development compared to other advanced countries and if it is not developed by 10 years, they would crush Russia. I chose this video as it perfectly summarizes what the 5 year plan was where the first plan was concentrated on heavy industry and by so through collectivization and rapid industrialization, the second and third was focused on developing heavy industries like coal, steel, oil and electricity. This greatly strengthened the economy. This source shows that Stalin's rule was beneficiary for USSR as it helped boost the economy.
No, Stalin was not a savior to USSR. USSR did benefit in a few ways through the 5 year plans such that Rapid industrialization helped build machinery for the farmers and helped people get jobs, collectivization helped collecting harvest be more efficient by merging smaller farms into bigger ones which overall did help boost the economy tremendously. However during his dictatorship, Stalin imposed many ruthless policies which cause countless of deaths and many to suffer. Firstly, during the great famine, instead of distributing the harvest collected to help the starving people, it was instead sold overseas to raise funds for more industrial machinery and development. This just shows how stone-hearted Stalin was and how he did not see the worth of other lives and instead only on his selfish goals. Secondly instead of earning the respect of the people to gain power, he instead instilled fear to them to gain power. During the great terror, the secret police had informers everywhere and the slightest indication of anti- stalin would cause people to be killed or jailed. This shows how cruel he was aas he did not let the people tom live in peace. Thus, Stalin was not a saviour of USSR.
